Why all the hate? And is that hate shared by all ODSTs?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

ODSTs were, before the Spartan program, the Original Badass.

The mentality that no one is more crazy than you is encouraged and that is going to be maintained throughout the creation of the Spartan program.

ANY VENUE I WILL END YOU

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate.Hate leads to the jealous side.

Spartans made them look bad.

  • 08.07.2011 5:41 AM PDT

Yup.Before the Spartans, the ODSTs were taking on all the "hard" missions. Then when ONI came out with the Spartans, they kind of shooed them aside and put them on missions that the typical Marine would do. The ODSTs also know that the Spartans are bigger and stronger than them, so they're always trying to show there leaders that they are still capable of taking on the original missions that they where assigned with.

I used to get on these forums back in the Halo 1, anticipating Halo 2 days...I'm back :)

They are jealous, and Master Chief killed some of them in a training exercise....

See you on the battlefield.

It might have something to do with S-117 killing three of them in a sparring session.

The ODST's you meet in the games seem quite respectful to 117 (and the Arbiter, for that matter) I think it's a bit of a 'brain bug' that comes from some of the earlier novels and has been added to the 'things that ODSTs do' list.

It got blown out of all proportion in The Flood with major Silva being a right bleeding idiot, but I doubt ODSTs like Dutch, Mickey, or Buck would have any problem with the Spartans. Maybe Romeo, but he has a problem with everyone....

Eat, Sleep, Row

I got the impression it was mostly the ODST commanders that were hatin, but Spartan IIs kind of stole their role and some ODSTs were killed in training exercises by Spartan IIs.

However, in Halo 3, the covenant have already found earth and the war looks just about lost. So I can imagine that even the ODSTs would apprectiate seeing a spartan come fight at their side.

Silva had a personal reason for hating Spartans though, as he was the commander of the group that attacked John(overestimating themselves while not knowing what they were dealing with), and John walked off with no punishment after a few men were killed.

If it tastes like toast, smells like toast. Wait, why are you smelling toast?

Spartans took the ODST's spot as elite soldiers and they resent them for that, they also think they are freak because of their augmentations.

To be honest, when I first saw all this in the weekly update I thought 2 things.
#1- there is an actual legendary ending but,
#2- No matter what anyone does,(kill all the bobs, hit all switches etc) that until the "time" mentioned in "There'll be another time..." is reached there won't be a legendary ending.

The weekly update by bungie has slowed my hardcore search for what unlocks the legendary ending.

Just watch babysitter. they changed their view after the spartan died.

And I think all the hatin stopped after the fall of Reach. Red team vs THE ENTIRE COVENANT ARMY! they had to be respected by then, trying to defend a generator against the covie forces would be suicidal.

Why was 6 afraid of 7?

It wasn't, numbers are not sentient beings and thus incapable of feeling fear. Get your facts straight.

The way I understand it, when reading "The Fall of Reach", is they developed their strong dislike of the Spartans shortly after John-117 killed 3 and critically wounded 1 in training. Thing is, the four ODST's were seasoned veterans and 117 was like 9.

Thing is, the ODSTs were arrogant, overestimated themselves and underestimated John while not knowing what they were dealing with.

Likewise, John didn't know his strength at all and had to be consoled afterwards.

Also, John was a teenager at that time, not 9 years old. That would mean he got augmented three years after start of training.

"For God and Glory!"

it's just competition. like the U.S. Military branches, they don't really hate each other, they just think they're the best. except the Spartans are clearly better than the ODST, but they're not willing to accept not being the best.
