I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

Definitely hints towards some sort of persistent world controlled by the players. Along with the seeming drive Bungie has developed to push for player involvement I definitely seeing the shadow of a massive multiplayer online game. What shape it takes beyond that... eh.

If they do got the MMORPG/FPS route, while I'm a long time fan, I don't have blind faith. The MMOGame market is a hard one to break into, even for experienced developers. I still do have faith though and hope they do what they did to the FPS market.

I am excited for 'Bungieconomy'. I have no idea what kind of game uses an economy, that is cross platform.

A console MMOFPS that has dedicated servers where you can actually play cross platform with people playing the game on other platforms... That would be amazing.

ISU Cyclones!

Personally I'm hoping for a space sim shooter resembling the Saber part of the "Long Night of Solace" mission.

I can't remember playing a very fun spaceship type game since the last console generation.

Space Simulators.
Duh.

Also to everyone who's taking this as "definite proof" it's a MMO, there's probably more games with a economy that don't have multiplayer than ones that do, so this doesn't really further the MMO theory.

And OP, Bungie's made like 9 FPSs, and the rest of their games were also shooters of some sort, well except for Gnop! and Myth, Bungie has been ... "Keeping a theme", shall I say.

You'll design the systems and mechanics which drive in-game trade, satisfy the players' need for possessions and wealth whilst ensuring rewards retain their intended value despite attempts to exploit or grief the system.

I put the important part in bold. Granted single player games have had trading an an in-game economy; however, what is described above suggested the market will in fact be driven not only by you, but others as well. Meaning somewhere there is an interaction between players, leading to what could be a massive multiplayer setting.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Bungie has always been good at redefining genres. So I hope that this game isn't another FPS, because I don't think there's much left to refine or redefine there. I want to see if Bungie still has their uncanny ability to make whatever genre they attack better. If they do, I'm sure the next game will be great. If they don't...which I honestly doubt they still have that ability after 10 years of FPS...then we'll just have to wait and see.

I really hope its not another FPS though. I'm so over shooters in general, but particularly FPS.

You could also read it like "Make it so players can't just get infinite money without trying.", you know like how you could just buy every house in Fable 3, wait five minutes and become rich and save everyone at the end of the game with your infinite, ever growing, bags of cash just by waiting a few minutes.

Now you're gonna say "Doesn't that fall under exploiting the system?", well not really, it's more a design oversight which people are using to "grief the system", of course though Lionhead trolled those people amazingly by making the game suddenly reach the climax and not allowing players like me to save the world.
But that's a topic for another time.

X3 also has a interesting "Grief the system" mechanic if you will, you can set up traders within the game which basically work as "Get me free money" by autopiloting your ships across the galaxy and trading, now as long as they don't go into pirate space you're golden, free money for the rest of your days and it only increases as you buy more ships.

What I'm basically saying here is that "Grief the system" could be interpreted in two ways, grief the players who use the system or abuse the system in some manner, it could really go either way but because of the multi-platform nature of the game, the highly probable FPS nature of the game and the fact that the whole reason people are following this MMO theory was because of one random rumour that all facets of was later officially denied by Bungie, I'm going with "Non-MMO, possibly singleplayer, space sim".

I'm well aware of the rumor and then the supposed debunking by Bunige. It very well could be some sort of single player space sim, it fits the bill just as much as a sci-fi MMO.

And granted I'm putting my own desires out there when interpreting certain things, as I believe if anyone has what it takes to revolutionize the MMO world, it would be Bungie. However, seeing such emphasis put on exploiting the system seems a little much for a single player game that really effects no one but that one player. Then again, maybe they just learned from Reach. :P

Of course, I just hate how everyone is constantly trying to connect everything to a Multi-platform MMOFPS just because of one rumour that was actually officially denied by the company. Not to mention the logistics would just be a pain.

And that isn't just the interfacing and making it "Hackproof" on all platforms, it's making it work the same on all platforms and making the companies agree to a cross platform gaming experience, I mean the only game I can think of that has cross platform play is Shadowrun and that's only because it was for Vista games and Xbox which are two Microsoft platforms.

Not to mention that Microsoft considers that a fail because the PC gamers generally creamed the console gamers due to their superior equiptment, so because of that hurdle it'll make Microsoft even less likely to get on board with it.

It's just on a general scale I think there are a lot of things pointing against it and I hate how just because there are some things vaguely pointing to it lying around and one rumour people are just accepting it as a fact.

And the economy is actually very important in trading games, sure it only effects one player but it's a measure of progress, I mean if you killed one guy in a RPG and became the top level instantly you wouldn't be having much fun would you? You know, effortlessly gliding through the levels with your infinite power, never levelling up or anything. Same principle.

Different from what? Their RTS, FPS, Third-Person shooters, or RPGs?
