Subject: The Halo books

I've been wishing to get into the halo novels for quite some time, however I have been under the pretense that there are only around 6 books. fall of reach, first contact, the flood, cole protocol, and ghosts of onyx are the ones coming to mind. However, after watching the san diego comic con halo universe panel I learned of Greg Bear's novels about the precursors and forerunners. So my question is to all of the book savvys out there, if you could please give me a complete list of all the halo books (and maybe the ones being released soon too) for my checklist.

Thank you in advance.

And as a fun tidbit, what was your favorite book?

These are all the books in chronological order:

Forerunner Trilogy
1: Cryptum
2: Primordium (release: Jan. 3rd 2012)
3: yet to be announced.

main series
4: Contact Harvest
5: Cole Protocol
6: Fall of Reach
7: The Flood
8: First Strike
9: Ghosts of Onyx

10: Evolutions (spans all the way from the very beginning to after Ghosts of Onyx/Halo 3)

Karen Traviss Trilogy
11: Glasslands (release: Oct. 28th 2011)
12: yet to be announced.
13: yet to be announced.

--------------------------------------
This is the common list for the books. However, Fall of Reach and Ghosts of Onyx both span large periods of time which also means overlap in timeline with books listed above them. I order them on their main focus however.

My favorite books would have to be:
- First Strike
- Fall of Reach
- Cryptum.

Not neccecarily in that order. But those are the most awesome in my humble opinion.

8/5/08 Bungie Favorites- NoEnd
7/1/09 Bungie Favorites- RECON Devil
9/9/09 Bungie Favorites- Champion
5/22/10 HaloCharts Favs- Prey

Orders above is pretty much right

But events sometimes overlap, like Fall of Reach starts before Contact Harvest, but doesn't end until Reach Falls.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Grasslands from Karen Travis?

What's it about, it's the first time I hear it actually has a name.

Thank you very much Donvinzone. With the advent of halo 4, the theorists have come out of the cracks again and it has become unbearable for me to read their threads because i cant understand any of it. The books will surely help though.

you're welcome mate.
I think that if you really want to understand the theories about Halo 4 right now, you should start reading Cryptum and Ghosts of Onyx first followed by Glasslands.

Those books probably shed most light on the direction the new games will be taking.
