ALL HAIL GABEN

It's kind of complicated to explain, but here is an easy version of it.

Marathon and Halo are in the same universe (correct me if i'm wrong). So what if Bungie is making a game set in the same universe, but with a completely new story, like how Marathon and Halo are.

ODST was set in the Halo universe, but it was too close to it. Marathon was set in it, but was far away from it. Do you get what i'm saying? I hope so.

That's debated, we don't exactly know for sure.

Well, you can say that. We can also say that Star Wars is in the same Universe as Halo, too...

He'd have instantly stopped and knelt down, one fist on the ground, hoping to be impervious to the officer's attacks. When this would have failed and he's in the back of the police car, he'd blame his predicament on his friends for not being team players.
Bungie's new game: Particle

They'd have to tread extremely carefully not to do anything that could get them sued.

Even if they did they wouldn't be able to admit it.

Im txgrim4 (Grim, Grimmy, Grimsta), i have been playing xboxlive for 9 years, evr since day 1 of Halo:CE til now. I love H2, that and Halo 1 are my favs. Im a Halologist when it comes to the Bungie/Halo Universe. Ive also played Marathon Series, ONI, and Myth Series. I live in Texas, Play Football, and cant wait for Halo 4!

That would be very cool, like have an easter egg of the marathon symbol somewhere, being in the same universe

  • 08.07.2011 12:27 PM PDT

Key

They said specifically they are making a new universe. Not just a new series.

Want to know what would be great? Is if Bungie announced their new game at the 2011 VGAs. Like what Bioware did with ME3.

This way we wouldn't have to wait until E3 2012 to see it.

I hope they don't. Then people will start giving a -blam!- about the VGAs. :(

Nope. There was a possibility, but now 343i owns Halo and I'm pretty sure Bungie still owns Marathon.

Brainwashing, idiotic media: "hur dur, vido gaems cas vilenc n iz nt gud. dey ned 2 b baned."

Logic: Really? Then please explain how there's violence in third world countries. I guess they're all poor due to the large amount of video games they buy.

Halo is 500 years from now.

Starwars was a ling time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Your logic is flawed. Only way Halo and Starwars could be linked is when the Yuuzhan Vong enter the Star Wars galaxy which could actually be Precursors since the Forerunners defeated them thousands of years before the events of Halo.

But it could be in the same universe! Just a different time, and in another galaxy far, far away!

Well, it turns out that Daredevil and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles exist in the same universe, but I don't think Bungie ever officially connected Halo's universe to any other science fiction property.

Faster Than Light Travel
The first contradiction involves the technology of faster than light (FTL) travel. Everyone knows that in Halo, FTL travel is possible by using Slipspace. According to the Halo timeline, the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine was created in 2291. By 2310 FTL travel was being used to start colonies. By 2390, colonization of the Inner Colonies was fully underway. By 2468, Outer Colonies were being settled. By 2490, the colonization boom was well underway and human space encompassed more than 800 worlds.

A quick study of Marathon's timeline will reveal a very different story. The conversion of Mars' moon Deimos into the Colony Ship Marathon began in 2408. It was completed 64 years later in 2472. It took the Marathon 300 years to travel from Sol to Tau Ceti (a distance of 12 light years). Obviously the Marathon was not equipped with FTL travel capability.

It is unconscionable that a colony ship would be built without FTL travel capability 117 years after the discovery of the FTL travel engine and during the golden age of FTL travel driven space exploration and colonization. Therefore it is not possible that the Halo and Marathon stories exist in the same universe.

Teleportation Technology
According to the Marathon timeline, teleporters began to be used in Sol as early as 2319. The Marathon, which was constructed from 2408 - 2472 was equipped with teleportation technology.

In the Halo universe teleportation technology was still unknown to humanity in 2552, 233 years after it was being used in Sol in the Marathon universe.

FTL travel and teleportation technologies are both unique to their respective universes and of primary importance in the telling of each story. These technological contradictions are irreconcilable, and therefore prove that the Marathon and Halo universes cannot be one in the same.

Yeah, I really need to keep this on hand so I don't have to search for it every time.

@HappyMeals: I did read the whole thing. And wasn't the Marathon a UESC ship? And isn't the UESC in the Halo universe?

Just pointing that out.

You do realise ODST was a Halo game and Marathon was not.

  • 08.07.2011 1:48 PM PDT

It's never been proven that Marathon and Halo took place in the same universe.
Since they've been working on it for 10 years, I think Bungie wants to start something completely separate from Halo. They also keep referring to the new IP as "their new universe".
