i never really liked halo 3 i felt as if it was a let downExactly. Halo 3 took away the control from the player and made the levels way too hazardous (i.e. scenery splatter).
In CE, on the Silent Cartographer, when the Pelican dropped off the Warthog, if you stood right under the Warthog, it wouldn't drop it.
In 3, on The Covenant, when the Pelican drops off the Scorpion, it doesn't even notice that you're standing right under it.
Friendly AI in 3 and Reach go full throttle with vehicles (especially the Warthog), which is exactly what happens in CE and Halo PC if you didn't use scripting after enabling marines to drive.
Unlike the friendly AI driving in Halo 2, which was mostly scripted, they did the opposite and gave the AI less stricter scripting. As a result, we get idiotic AI driving off cliffs, crashing into allies, etc.
They wanted to make the enemy AI more unpredictable. What they actually did was make the friendly AI unpredictable and the enemy AI predictable. And that just ruined my experience. I want control over my marines if I can't have control over my enemies. If I can't control my marines, how will I control my enemies when I want to manipulate them?
When marines aren't around, I find managing the situation concerning the enemy much more easier.
Here's an example of Brute AI control. You must have all Elites in the tower IIRC.
Stepping on the elevator spawns the Brutes and makes them go towards the door. I can either intercept them or go through the door will stop them and make them turn around, after which I can go ahead of them and ambush them or assassinate them one by one.
Activating the elevator makes Arby and his Elites go to their usual waiting spot and the Brutes will come through the door and then walk around aimlessly. I can either intercept them or wait in hiding and then ambush them one at a time.
I have full control. There's a similar scenario in the first tower.
