It's a shame that Reach and it's competition has taken away so many potential fans from Halo 3.
I have found plenty of things that people would have liked to experiment with:
-The Covenant, at the Citadel, although the pilot Elite does not interact, the 2 plasma cannon operators do... and they are invincible. Stick them, they take out a sword. Take it, give them another weapon then stick them again. You can do this until they have 4 weapons. Now obviously, this is mostly pointless as the only enemy you can get them to fight is the War Chieftain. However, if you produce an invincible half Flood Elite, you can get a potentially long lasting battle, no modding necessary.
-The Covenant, at Journey's End, there is a Pelican carrying a Gauss Warthog that arrives if the Warthog you received at the rally point bravo area is destroyed. This pelican has the only machine gun turret on the level AND it is possible to stop it from leaving by shooting it twice. I'm not sure if it is possible to get in it, but I suspect that you could get the pilot out by quickly triggering the vehicle deletion loading point. Also, you could have a machine gun Arby and have him participate in the Citadel bridge battle.
-The Covenant, at the Citadel, there are many approaches you can take after setting up a marine army:
a) trigger the Scarabs and then trigger the vehicle deletion loading point. You can get 2 Brutes and the aforementioned Elites but only 1 checkpoint.
b) trigger the vehicle deletion loading point, head to the beginning area until you get another loading point, go back to the Hornets area, trigger the Scarab battle, and then you can get 2 checkpoints with vehicles available.
c) trigger the vehicle deletion loading point, go to the Hornets, trigger the Scarabs (which will instead trigger the Scarab crew and Phantom Elites I'm not sure if the turret operators spawn as well). Only 1 checkpoint after this.
d) "time traveling". I have yet to test it out.
TLDR: The Citadel has a lot more fun than people realize.
