Brainwashing, idiotic media: "hur dur, vido gaems cas vilenc n iz nt gud. dey ned 2 b baned."

Logic: Really? Then please explain how there's violence in third world countries. I guess they're all poor due to the large amount of video games they buy.

So I relized my IP thing is flawed but something else just poped in my head.

Just as how the -Blam!- filter works, could that be possibly be used as some sort of site filter and make a ban list of shock sites and other inapropriate ones that will be continually updated?

He'd have instantly stopped and knelt down, one fist on the ground, hoping to be impervious to the officer's attacks. When this would have failed and he's in the back of the police car, he'd blame his predicament on his friends for not being team players.

One acronym "CAPTCHA". It should be used for account creation. (Which I think WLID does when an account is created, but IDK)

But for maxium effect, a CAPTCHA should be used for each post.

That's pretty extreme. How about for inserting links (below a certain trust level)?

...or how about there is like two to three questions about the Halo trilogy and you must provide a valid answer?

What about down the road when Bungie releases their new IP? Some people, like PS3 players, may not know.

Then we edit the questions and have a time limit so you can't google.

That didn't answer my other point. PS3 players who are interested in Bungie may want to join up on the forums to speculate on the New IP. If they've never played Halo and there is no info on the new game, what do they do? That system can't work.

Then you run into people using TinyURL or other sites. They randomly generate different URL's.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

It also moderates a group of people in the minority (those without any title at all). And even so you could just have an honorable member or higher take a URL and hyperlink it for you. Like "blah blah blah post about something blah blah blah... and you can see a picture of it here: photohoster.com/pictureofsomething.jpg . (btw could someone Hyperlink this for me?)" if the actual clickability of your URL is that imperative. Like how people ask for people to render clips from theater.

I am sorry don't take this the wrong way, but that sounds -blam-ing stupid.

I have been a member here for 2 years, I should be able to post links becuase I have no link related bans.

A silly little title does not define a member, his or her actions does so based what someone may or may not do based on that will lead to even more problems for this site and the community.

Yes, I like the idea of CAPTCHAs for posting links. Also, Bungie should have a list of links that are filtered out, and bit.lys and shortened URLs should not be allowed. Also, Mods should be able to add inappropriate links to the filtered list.

Fair enough... a 1-3 month conditional period where you're limited to a certain number of PPD and no hyperlinking allowed? Sounds better, I do see the flaws in my post now.

Also, Mods should be able to take away your hyperlink-posting privileges. Like, you can still post links, but you won't be able to disguise them. It would show up as

It isn't going to work. You are trying to have WAY too much power over forum users and making stereotypical assumptions on what they may do based on titles and join dates.

idk, new members would get bored of Bungie.net way before a month if they were controlled how much they can post and they can't post links.

  • 08.08.2011 10:46 PM PDT

I don't think the solution involves titles or join dates. I think it's a matter of preventing inappropriate links from being posted by any user.

Agreed, link your GT or you dont get to post on the forums. And you cant link the same GT to two accounts. If you're making a new one, you have to go on and delete the old one. If a GT is linked to a banned account, you can't make a new account with that GT until the ban expires. If its a perma ban, you cannot make a new account with that GT ever.

All GT's, like you said, must be associated with a gold membership.

Like I said, CAPTCHA's only stop bots. Anyone can type them in and I highly doubt it would slow down link spammers. About the filter list, it wouldn't work either. New links pop up everyday. Sometimes link shorteners are needed too. Hey guys I need to show you this! That link is nearly 2,000 characters. It take up nearly 1/5th of our allotted characters.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that no one has the desire to pay for a gold membership just to make an alternate account for trolling.

I think, at the very least, no hyperlinking for the first MONTH is reasonable. If you can't deal without that blue text for one month then you have no patience. You can very easily post the link, and people will understand you're probably a new member. and if its spam, they can see that too.

With that mindset, why let any user post links?

Or post?

Or have the forums?

We can't make Bungie.net this perfect place where everything is covered in pillows and nerfed.

Shock Sites are a part of the internet and since this forum is on the internet, ergo shock sites are part of Bungie.net till the trolls are done (which will be when we all realize not to click silly looking links and just report).

If you give them emotion, you give them more reason to stay.

Why? In my opinion this is the most logical solution. In your first few months with an account you should be lurking and learning the rules. You don't need to do heavy posting, and you really don't need links that much either.

People like imediate satisfaction.

Here is a sxenerio:

newbie: Cool, I joined this site so excited

*post *post *post

I hit the post cap. :(

newbie: Hey, I want to post a link of this cool vid I found in the Flood (which follows the rules)

I don;t have the proper authority? :'(

newbie: WHAT?1?, U have to wait A MONTH for all the site to open up for me?

That is non-sense, I am never coming back here.

That is what would keep happening.

I honestly believe an account should have a gold membership on XbL to use the forums.

But Bungie is going multi-platform now, remember.

Besides, what about people like me who only play Halo and are not avid gamers. It's ridiculous that I should have to pay to interest with other people who like the game.
