What if you don't have any friends on B.net? How would you join?

Maybe you could request a membership if you have a clean Xbox Live account, i.e. no bans, good service record or something?

LOL I would never be able to get into that.

My ban history is very unclean.

Too bad.

I completely agree with Recon here, a invite only community would drastically decrease trolls.

I say we push for this before the new IP comes out.
I also think we should push for more punishment for many bans...say 20 bans = account deletion or something?

Absolutely. you're a terrible member of this community if you've been banned that many times and we'd be better off without you.
LOL, you have only been here for less than a year, I have been here for over 2 years.

I think I have a little more experience than you in this community and trust me bans happen.
You've only been here over 2 years, I've been here more than 6. Trust me, bans don't just happen.
You've only been here over 6 years, I've been here more than 7. Trust me bans do just happen.

Did you seriously just pull the "I have been here longer than you therefore my opinion is more valid" card?

I hope you never get any kind of title, you would be bringing it up in every other thread.

"I have mythic, I think I know everything about this website, son."

You said earlier you are trying to be less of a nuisance and a better member?

Step one, never mention your join date again in an argument.
Ya Skibur, don't ever do this. :D

Just remove everyone who joined after 2004 and don't allow any new members.

Change it to after 2006 and I can live with this.

I don't have any experience with bans just happening either in the last 5 1/2 years I've been on the forums, although I don't post much on here.

I just hope if any system is implemented, that it does not discourage new members from joining

In this system of inviting, how exactly would age be determined? I've been here since April 2007 and I still have a pathetic Noble Member title.

Can we get over join dates and titles, please?

It isn't getting anywhere.

I'm writing a little bit up on the invite idea, one moment.

Before I do that, however...

Remove the forums. It's foolproof.
Let's think about it.
Security vs. Liberty. We're trying to cut a balance.

How far can we go to ensure security that doesn't get in the way of normal users?
How much are normal users willing to put up with to stop spam and bad links?

Shutting down the website stops 100% of any attempted malicious actions, but also gets in the way of normal users.

Similar to the PM hacking string stopper, we don't want security measures that might trap too many normal users on top of malicious users.

If you want to stop 99% of malicious attempts it's going to hinder all of us. It's going to be annoying.
Is it worth it?

Is waiting a month before each new account can post, on top of sponsorship, on top of only-linked-XBL-accounts can post, on top of a 10-minute spam filter, etc. be worth the vast amount of spam and bad links it cut down?
How much are we willing to give up in terms of user liberty?

I want you, if I can't have you then I don't want anyone!
Longshot, boom your dead.

I like it the way it is.

Problem?

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

The essential thing is to build a more responsible community.

I don't think that it is necessarily the system that we need to change, but rather the mindset of the users. If the users can begin to act more responsible, the community will improve.
I feel like the best opportunity to do this will be with the announcement of the new game. With new people brought in, we will be able to more adequately instill the spirit of the community in the new comers.

Just a thought.

Thinking about posting links should be a burnable offense.
Such a rule would yield great success in combating the link menace

I know that registration can't be too difficult, but this is getting ridiculous. Even if someone gets banned, they usually have an alt ready; it's getting out of hand. I don't have any solutions, so feel free to post yours below.
I approve of this thread because I posted in that thread.

OT: Don't click the links of any member with the title of "Member" without checking it. Its easy with Shi Options.

  • 09.06.2011 3:26 PM PDT

I have that now, and I love it, but I didn't when I made this thread. It still shouldn't be that easy to make alts.

I know this idea isn't a popular one, but force people to link a Gamertag or PSN ID (when Bungie's next game is announced) to any new profile created. It's still not foolproof, but it would cut down on this crap significantly. Older members can keep their non-linked profiles, but after this force users to link online GTs and stuff, and ban those GTs when a user posts Meatspin or whatever.

I know people don't like the idea of restricting the site, but face it, if you're not interested in video games, and aren't going to get Bungie's next game or games, then you really don't belong here. Anyone who is just a fan of Bungie's older games is probably here already.

  • 09.06.2011 4:04 PM PDT

I was against this at first, but it seems to be the best solution.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic.

If you're not, well then you're quite possibly the dumbest member we have.
