Whenever I try to host a game on Halo PC or CE or make a dedicated server, nothing happens. No one joins the game. At first I thought it was just because no one wanted to join, but I made a dedicated server and it didn't show up on the server list on Halo. The game still thinks it is connected, though. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this? (And yes, sv_public was set to 1)

You have to open the port if you have a firewall. That's a likely one.

.. I don't know the port though. Someone here should.

Well first of all it should be sv_public true assuming that is right the ports you have to open up are 2302 and 2303 if you have any firewalls running shut them down including windows firewall if thats not the problem then you may be connected through a router if you are it acts as a hardware firewall you have to access its setup features and port forward the proper ports you can access this area of your firewall by opening your browser and typing 192.168.1.1 in the addy bar then it will pop up a user name and passy screen to access this area of router most likely you havent changed them from factory default so the user name and passy are admin and admin VOILA your in just forward the proper ports if you still have trouble then go back to the router and just enable dmz hosting for your computer but be carefull YOULL BE HACKED outside of halo that is.

Ok, let me see if I can translate that to normal English.. (no offence, but your post is a bit chaotic)

First of all, you need to make sure that your firewall allows the dedicated server to connect to the Internet (I assume you did that).

Secondly, in the ini-file of the dedi, the sv_public flag should be set to "true" if you want your server to show up in the game list. (read the readme file that came with the dedi for more info)

And the most important of all. If you have a router, you have to forward ports 2302 and 2303. Taker posted how to do it for his own router, but unfortunately, it could be entirely different for you since this depends on the brand of your router. I suggest reading the manual that came with it or go to http://www.portforward.com. That is a very informative site that shows you step by step what you have to do.

And one more thing, don't put it in DMZ mode. That is a major security risk that you shouldn't be taking if you only want to run a game server.

Good luck with it! Ask more questions if you need to ;)

I made sure it wasn't my fire wall, sv_public is true, and I don't have a router. However, I DID just get DSL a few weeks ago and that is when I couldn't host games anymore (It worked before, but 2 person matches are no fun). So could it be the modem acting as a router (despite having only DSL, ny comp. insists it has a T10 LAN connection. Could this have something to do with it?)

Edit: on second thought, we have a router, but my computer is not connected to it in any way. We still have a landline. (The router is for my parent's computer) My computer WAS connected to one of the ports, though, but we connected it to a different line.

Em, I'm not following now. You got multiple computers at home, but you are not connected to the router?

Then you have multiple lines or what?

Yeah, we got coded cable with an IP decoder (or something like that...), so all our T.V.'s are hooked up to DSL too, so the router is connected to one of those (something to do with only being allowed one computer connection, or the line being too short... no one tells me the details). My dad HAD it connected to my computer (as opposed to my parent's cool one), but it was a crappy signal, so he switched it. As to my problem, I'm going to try to re-install Halo CE (and thus, the dedicated server) and pray. Unless you (or anyone) have a better idea.

That happened to me, its because it you have DSL/cable then when u start a server u need to turn it to on what u have, but there are many types of DSL/cable modes when u start ur server, i use AVG, or HIGH. Even though i have firewall, i didnt have to open ports, i am a EXTREMELY LUCKY MAN. :P
