Don't you just love all those old sci-fi novels?

See you on the battlefield.

Yeah, I knew that. But Ringworld wasn't their only inspiration. You'll notice slight nods to Alien, Predator, Starship Troopers and the like.

There's also a bit of Discworld with the Ark.

The UNSC Marines always reminded me slightly of the one's in Starship Troopers.

I believe the Halo rings are more akin to The Culture series' Ringworlds called Oribitals. The Halos and Orbitals are about the same size, whereas the Ringworld.....Christ that thing's huge.

question everything...truth has no pedigree

Yeah, Bungie has taken inspiration from a variety of sci-fi staples (e.g. Alien, Predator).

Really? You should be looking more to the marines in Aliens there, they are nearly identical really, Johnson is basicly based on the cigar chomper from aliens. The pelicans are similar to the drop ship in there as well... kind of going away from the topic there.

Best. Ship. Ever!

My father told me about that book many years ago. Never read it but I knew the concept of ring worlds wasn't original when Bungie did it. Doesn't make Halo any less good though.
