Well, my bnet account anyways =P
So I don't believe I've made any of these "account birthday" threads, mainly because I haven't felt any of them were significant enough to make note of. Not saying 5 is a big one or anything, but its only 2 years from the big one xP
So here's my bnet story =)
I was always a gamer, since I can remember I had family members shoving video games in my face, and teaching me to play them. Sega Genesis rules my childhood, with my father and I playing Risk, The Lost Vikings, Sonic(Obviously), and many others.
Fast forward through years of casual/slightly above average amounts of gaming to my first lump of money burning a hole in my pocket. Unresearched impulse buy wound me up with an Xbox and a few games that looked cool solely from the cover art, one of them being Halo. Little did I know the game would have such a huge impact on my life.
After playing through some of the games, I popped in Halo, and went straight into campaign. I was always about the campaign, since I am an only child and my dad only wanted to play on occasion. Well, after starting the game for the very first time, I was only interrupted by my mother yelling down the stairs asking if I had finished my homework yet. Confused, I responded "I'm going to do it a little later, I'm just playing xbox right now". When my mom explained to me that I had been down there playing for hours and it was getting late I barely believed her. How could it have been hours? It felt like 20 minutes. After finishing my homework I returned back downstairs to play some more, and ended up staying up far too late.
The next day at school all of my friends were asking what was wrong with me because I looked like crap. I simply told them they were all coming over after school. The school day crawled by, with nothing but thoughts of this amazing thing I had purchased myself. All of my friends walked to my house after school which was a decent distance, and they threatened with things like "This better be something awesome if we're walking all the way to your house", and so on.
We arrive at my house and head straight to the xbox. I explain to my friends how awesome the game was as I put the disc back into the tray, and they ask if it had anything other than story mode. I explained that it didn't matter because the story was so awesome, but they weren't having it. So, since I had made them walk all the way there, I obliged and said we would check out multiplayer before we got into the campaign.
Campaign never happened that night.
Long story short, all of my friends had an xbox and a copy of Halo over time. Every single one. Summers were filled with LAN parties, everyone bringing their own TV and xbox. At one point we were actually having a bon fire before we LAN'd all night, and a neighbor called the cops saying there was underage drinking going on. The cops showed up and saw 4 cases of mountain dew outside the shop garage we always had our LAN parties in, then asked if we minded if they had a look inside. We had nothing to hide, so we told them to go right ahead.
After opening the door, the cop literally stopped in shock. He saw a garage littered with 16 TVs and xboxs, and a whole stack of pizza boxes. He turned around without setting foot in the garage and said, "What in the world are you guys doing in here?" I simply responded "We're nerds" and laughed. The cop smiled and said "Have fun guys, just try to keep it down".
Those LAN parties are what I believe kept my group of friends held together with such a strong bond, even if teabagging did deal out a few black eyes and result in some ragequits sometimes. xP
The LANs didn't stop, and they still haven't to be honest. I've lived in 3 houses with a big group of friends, in fact, a house of 13 guys and 2 girls at one point.
On top of that, I opened a LAN Center in my hometown from the ground up, and ran it for a year before closing it down. Built all the PCs myself, and was the only employee and owner.
Now, I'm working random jobs just to get a little extra cash saved up before I leave for school next February, when I will be attending Full Sail for a Game Development degree.
Other than that, over the years I've:
Got some tattoos
I'll be getting another soon
Created DMH
Made some Montages and Top Ten videos.
And made a ton of new online, and real life friends.
I'm glad to still be active around here, and I can't wait to see the explosion of activity after Bungie unleashes this beast of a game they're working on currently. Keep up the awesome until then community <3
