I wanna see how many agree with me when I say, "Innovation is the key to keeping people excited about a new release.". What if a new Halo 3: ODST is made that can get all those nay-sayers to quiet down and actually try it out? Picture the main menu.
Campaign
Matchmaking
Firefight
Forge
Theater
Let's explore the possibilities of all of these.
Campaign:
Set after the events of Halo 3, You are a corporal leading your fireteam against the flood. Its a bit later now, about 2553 or so, and alot of new vehicles have comeout, and alot of old vehicles have had the kinks worked out. You now have Hawks, or Sparrowhawks at your disposal. Guns aren't so cut and dry anymore. Attachments are included in your class loadout. Suppressors, stronger scopes, underslung weapon systems, and what kinda grenade you start out with, even what you look like can be class specific. Or, you can go the old fashion way and look the same regardless. I'll leave the narrative to you guys.
Matchmaking:
Since 343 industries is still comprised mainly of ex-bungie employees, (at the top anyway) I don't expect to see Multiplayer Matchmaking in a second ODST. However, if there were a possibility, I'd blend firefight versus with invasion. phase one you start out with 10 lives, An anti air turret (to discourage spawn camping) 8 marines or four grunts and four jackals plus whoever's playing alongside you. When the attacking team completes the objective, both sides get reinforcements in the form of 3 lives a piece, all your dead buddies come back, and reinforcements, however, number and quality of reinforcements is decided by how well you did last phase. You did good? Then you get skirmishers, but only six. Other team got murdered? They have 10 marines. Add in a possibility for one of the rounds to be a vip assassination phase? You've got yourself a game.
Firefight:
New to firefight...The flood. You and three other ODSTs are waiting for extraction when...you see something move out of the corner of your eye. You think nothing of it and continue along, but as you go to regroup, A tentacle comes down and kills you. you watch as the respawn timer counts down your body twisting and mangling in a terrible way, lifting the gun you once used. You respawn, shaken by what you've just seen but determined to make it out alive. Just like firefight, you have ten lives, but this time, when you run out of lives, you don't get bored and go make a sandwich, you get to control your disfigured, infected body. infinite respawns, and unlimited fun. Make it to the pelican for extraction, and best your friend's high scores in this creepy atmosphere of death and decay. Classic firefight is still available though.
Forge:
Making a map for the previous invasion/firefight versus mix would be better if you could decide what textures you want to use. Wanna make it look like a human city? Forerunner relic? Downed covenant ship? Before starting, you choose the flavor of your map, human/covenant/forerunner, and go from there. you can change what time of day it is, even the weather. This tech has been around since Timesplitters, why hasn't bungie let us play?
Theater:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
