Subject: Should bungie choose late night moderators?

"Even in death, your Sergeant guides us home."

It would be better to have the ability to ignore posts created by accounts of their choosing would be a better solution.

I edited this because i changed my mind and thought this would be a better idea. But i have one question for the ninjas and achronos, if bungie no longer messes with the forums then how will you update this system?

whats your input?

Edit: but on second though, that Blue Jesse guy seems like a good choice.

That would be helpful, however you can't really tell a volunteer to stay up late to catch these posts. I understand where you're coming from though, I tend to stay on the flood until 1:30 each night and it continually is overran by those posts. I wish I could do something, but the best thing we can do is report the posts and ignore them.

I think we should clarify what we mean by "late night" here. Late night Pacific? Late night Eastern? Late night with Jimmy Fallon?

What, they're only allowed to moderate at night?

Why don't you just have them moderate all the time?

I think he just means mods that are willing to stay up late to keep the forums under control at night.

yeah i live in nc so eastern time, it would better if eastern time did the moderating also because that would mean even longer for monitoring for the west coast.

No, no, it's Late Night with David Letterman.

At the end of the day, though, the moderators aren't paid. They aren't exactly "hired."

They cannot be forced to moderate any time they don't want to.

You can recruit some mods from different time zones, but even then, it might take a few.
All for the point of policing all hours of the day...

Just "Late Night." Moderators are required to drive across countries so they stay in the time zone appropriate with "Late Night." The time they get off is when they fly from continent to continent. So, flights over the Atlantic and Pacific...

Just going by what I have read on B.net here;

The Ninjas are not employed, they moderate at their leisure or as their own busy lives allow.

If you create a set schedule for the moderators, or special moderators for the nighty-nite times, wouldn't they then technically have to be then employed by Bungie?

While that wouldn't be a bad thing by any means, that wouldn't make it a labor of love. From what I understand, moderators do this simply because they love the Community so much (most of the time. lol), that they are picked and do their duties here as a voluntary basis.

If you change that, then eventually moderating will become more of a job than fun. If you take the fun out of it because of a paycheck or set schedule("Da**, I have to go to work guys... if I'm not on in 5 to moderate, I'm gonna get written up...), then I assume it would take that special quality for these individuals that makes them love their jobs and being members of the Commnunity so much.

I think that the moderating is fine the way it is now. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

It isn't as black and white as that, unfortunately.

Why people who are willing to stay up? Use timezones to your advantage :P

Aren't there a few mods from other countries besides the United States? I can see maybe intentionally searching for moderators in other timezones, but I don't think it's necessary.

A ninja said I seem like a good choice. That's basically the same as something being written in stone. I'm a total shoe in for ninjahood now. See ya later suckers!

Like quite a few of the other commentators here have said already, I also would love to be a Ninja.

I am also however, a realist.

I know that there is a massive list of people before me who would make better Ninjas than I would. My account age would stifle that just by itself, even though I have been cruising around here since 2005 or 2006 (stupid homelessness...).

But I think that when they do pick a new slate of Ninjas, I know that they will pick them with the best interests of the Community in mind.

From further reading, they pick new ones about once per year. When is that?

Only the Ninjas know. Only the Ninjas.
