Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

It doesn't help that most people who would be good moderators have absolutely no desire to do it because it is a thankless job, and most who want to do it would make terrible moderators.

How do you know if the people that post here won't make good moderators?

And if you want new moderators, is that actually that hard to lay down strict rules for new moderators and give dedicated, active users a chance and tell them how to work, if they don't already know?

Because this is over the internet and not face to face?

I really doubt Achronos would like to look through applications and do skype interviews >_>.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

What about people who aren't self-righteous butthurt individuals?
Whoever could you be referring to?

That wouldn't be a personal attack on me, would it?

Depends, do you think you fit the description? It's a general statement of inconclusiveness. You are what you think you are. It isn't important how others perceive you, it is how you perceive yourself. If you think you fall into that category, then maybe you're doing something wrong.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Yeah, no. That's akin to hiring someone to building security right off the street without a background check.

I'm sure there are things that go into consideration. Post history and ban history are things that come off the top of my head.

Then I'm sure knowing the potential moderator personally comes into play as well.

I am pretty serious considering I don't see how the accusation correlated with the statement.

But, I am obviously missing an inside joke or something I don't understand that is leading me to the obviously false conclusion you are indicating.

A good recruiting tool might be low-level mods who can only send warnings.

They have a trial period of a week or so and the other mods keep an eye on them.

Then the moderation discusses how many of the low level mods make it to mod-hood.

Good point but why not have like a dedicated team that will watch over them for a week or two and see if they're fit for the job?

You two should make it less obvious at how badly you guys want to be mods.

Also, one bad moderator can cause all sorts of trouble. One bad mod on by himself can lock and/or delete a ton of threads along with banning a lot of members. Maybe you weren't around when Pezz or Recon's accounts got hacked, but it can get messy.

Beat you to it but I 100% agree.

A new mod could not do great harm if they go rouge.

And, a week will let the forum user consider if they should remain a mod or return to normalcy.

I mean once you are a mod, everyone treats you different either it be with respect or rage from being moderated.

To be honest I would like Bungie to know that I'm interested. I wouldn't say badly want it, it's just I've done a fair share before and I'm just wondering how hard it is for Bungie to take a look around and find people with the potential.

That was a hack and not the moderator's fault.

But, anything a new mod does can be un-done becuase they don't have high enough powers on the sight.

But, I would hope that most people would take the role of mod seriously if they were offered it and not disappoint the moderation team.

I heard Toast told someone to delete their system 32 file (which is bad), haven't heard much about Impuri7y.

But I mean it happens, sometimes you get a mod or 2 who have shown they shouldn't be in their place of power and the web team will handle that.

But, I mean having more mods would be great but it is trial and error becuase I am sure there are a few people here who would take the role seriously.

But, I am sure a lot of people begging for modship won't want it when they see the responsibility they have on the moderation team and the general opinion of them on the community and the high expectations they with have to uphold as a mod.

Anyway, it's true that there's a lot of people who want to be mod and it's also true that being a moderator of a forum is quite often less "fun" than it appears. Speaking from personal experience, the hate mail is not worth perks.

Or they can just stay with the current moderator staff that they trust because stuff gets cleaned up eventually. Sure, it isn't immediate, but it is unrealistic to ever think that it will be. Also, the hassle of picking a new moderator and "training" them could be taking time away from more important things that actually need to be done with the website.

I understand but sometimes there has to be a little risk involved.

Getting new mods would be great for the site and you might get some bad apples in the bunch.

But, it seems more worth it to try and get more moderation on the site despite worrying about some risks which can be fixed.

Trust is a 2 way street.
