Subject: Why was the Pillar of Autumn on Reach?

Now I am no canon expert for the Halo Storyline and I know it states in the book that the PoA never touched Reach during the fall of the planet but I was curious considering Games over right novels in canon terms, why was the Pillar of Autumn on Reach?

Like why was it in the Ship Yard, was it originally damaged or what?

Just wanted to know if there is a Canon answer.

Marine: "Got a new contact. Unknown Classification!"
Lord Hood: "If it isn't one of ours, take it out."
MC: "This is bus 117, can anyone hear me? Over."
Lord Hood: "Isolate that signal. Master Chief, you mind telling me you're doing at that school?"
MC: "Sir... picking up these kids."

This is the only thing (aside from dates which doesn't really bother me) that isn't really jusifiable... to be honest, as a fan, it really bothered me for a while.

I'd really appreciate it if they provided an excuse, or jusified it in their reprint of the Fall of Reac book... I figured it was rereleased to fix the error. Your guess is as good as mine.

The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

As I understand it, you know that it breaks the book's canon but you want to know why it was even at dry dock?

I'd say it just used it as a parking place so it could retrieve the package and then get the hell out of there. :P

I heard about the rerelease of the novel, I thought it was just to get more sales, did they actually change stuff in their?

If so, would you mind telling me what else changed compared to the old novel?

I heard rumours that it said Halsey's Transporter (Jun) died but nothing else.

The Pillar of Autumn was commissioned originally to take all the Spartans to the home planet of Covenant(before they knew about High Charity) to capture the leader and put an end to the war.
The Autumn was the ship set for it originally due to how it was built. It was an old decommissioned ship. It was on Reach for out fitting. Halo CE takes place directly after The Pillar leave Reach as it is fleeing the Covenant.

Besides the couple errors in the story this was the order of events. The books tell that bit of story.

It was on Reach because it was prepared for the sneak attack on High Charity to capture the high prophets, but before it could start the Covenant attacked Reach. Maybe it wasn't used for the battle against the Covenant because it had some unique technology on board or something like that and they didn't want to waste it because they hoped to fight the covenant back and restart the mission.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

In terms of canon that had been in place for years, it should not have been there.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Bungie doesn't like following its own canon.

Well I thought it was WAY cooler to go back to the beginning of Halo:CE to finish the series over any other ending.

I'm sure Bungie thought a minor change of saying 'okay the ship landed for a bit' was worth bending the canon that honestly doesn't matter at the end of the day.

Seriously... people who still complain about this need to get over it.

It didn't "shatter" cannon. It probably landed for some quick repairs and to get the Package before leaving.

It was at dry dock to pick up the other part of Cortana. If the Covenant got a hold of that it would have sucked to say the least.
