This graph, starting from zero, sums me up nicely on the subject.
The peak would be roughly where 343i took over, funnily enough. They appear to have very different ideas about the Sangheili than Bungie did.Care to elaborate Rtas?
In a nutshell, Bungie implied that the Elites held true rectitude and respect for their foes aside from the obvious Zealots. However with nearly every release from 343 Industries, that has been eroded away. Evolutions said that they butchered civilians in their homes, Encyclopaedia revealed that they never actually planned to help Humanity, but only did so because the NOVA wiped out their fleets, and now Glasslands overwrites the respect thing that Conversations from the Universe set in motion 7 years ago.
Still rooting for Rtas though, until Karen Traviss turns him into an emo kid or a megalomaniacal Human hater.
That is in brief. I can't be bothered writing a full length thing at 3 in the morning really.
Sorry for questioning you... but weren't the slaughtered humans in Evolutions killed when the Shipmaster glassed that planet? Glassing is just part of the Covenant's holy cleansing, I don't really see that as a symbol of the Elite's losing their honor.
The Shipmaster said that after 2 days of slaughtering Humans in their homes, they proceeded to glass the planet. It was explicitly stated.
Now think, how many children and infants, mothers and fathers would have been butchered by Sangheili hands? No one with true honour would engage in such disgusting acts, and the point conveyed was that the Sangheili were supposed to be above it.
And I don't care very much for all these "Well it was a religious war" arguments. The Sangheili were originally meant to have rectitude, and felt something in common with Humanity with Humanity's fortitude. The whole point was that they were something special in the sense that they would not do things like that at all. Yes, they glassed planets, but they regretted it somewhat and felt that it was wrong deep down. Additionally it separated them from their victims. I mean they are meant to be soldiers, with a profound sense of honour, not Brutes.
Like I said, 343 Industries must have a very different idea of things.
