Okay so in Halo: Reach it occurs to me that elites are evil, ferocious douches, but I've started to play halo 2 and 3 again and I've been reading up about them and it seems to me that they aren't actually that bad. Apparently they even asked the prophets if instead of killing all of humanity they could spare them and invite them to join the covenant. AND above all of course they rise up against the Prophets in halo 2, do you guys like elites or do you hate them cus I think I might even start playing one in roleplay sessions, just a thought ;)

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

This graph, starting from zero, sums me up nicely on the subject.

The peak would be roughly where 343i took over, funnily enough. They appear to have very different ideas about the Sangheili than Bungie did.

In a nutshell, Bungie implied that the Elites held true rectitude and respect for their foes aside from the obvious Zealots. However with nearly every release from 343 Industries, that has been eroded away. Evolutions said that they butchered civilians in their homes, Encyclopaedia revealed that they never actually planned to help Humanity, but only did so because the NOVA wiped out their fleets, and now Glasslands overwrites the respect thing that Conversations from the Universe set in motion 7 years ago.

Still rooting for Rtas though, until Karen Traviss turns him into an emo kid or a megalomaniacal Human hater.

That is in brief. I can't be bothered writing a full length thing at 3 in the morning really.

I love em. I'd much rather have them as allies on the field than anything else, simply because it just feels awesome.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I'm not an Elite fan aside from the Arbiter. I think they're a bunch of hypocrites.

Sorry for questioning you... but weren't the slaughtered humans in Evolutions killed when the Shipmaster glassed that planet? Glassing is just part of the Covenant's holy cleansing, I don't really see that as a symbol of the Elite's losing their honor.

i like the elites. arbiter and rtas vadam, that white armoured elite. im not familiar with his personality, but is he like the covenant version of sgt johnson? i never really paid attention in halo 2 unless i was hitting him through the levels.

Elites have been losing their title as honorable fighters. They attacked Noble 6 like a pack of hungry dogs.

Elites have always been shown as more honorable in other forms of Halo media and far more pragmatic in the games. Also, Noble 6 is not canon/ONI propaganda/stupid.

As for the Sangheili themselves, I feel that WarlordFil's writing does a great job of bringing their culture to life.

True. But, their attack on 6 at the end of Lone Wolf doesn't truly reflect their culture very well. A single man/woman, whose race they viewed as inferior, literally slaughtered thousands of their comrades and friends single-handedly. (excluding the possiblity the player dies rather quickly in Lone Wolf)

I don't care how honorable one's race is, watching that would definitely cause a more ferocious and dishonorable attack on whoever could pull that feat off.

The Shipmaster said that after 2 days of slaughtering Humans in their homes, they proceeded to glass the planet. It was explicitly stated.

Now think, how many children and infants, mothers and fathers would have been butchered by Sangheili hands? No one with true honour would engage in such disgusting acts, and the point conveyed was that the Sangheili were supposed to be above it.

And I don't care very much for all these "Well it was a religious war" arguments. The Sangheili were originally meant to have rectitude, and felt something in common with Humanity with Humanity's fortitude. The whole point was that they were something special in the sense that they would not do things like that at all. Yes, they glassed planets, but they regretted it somewhat and felt that it was wrong deep down. Additionally it separated them from their victims. I mean they are meant to be soldiers, with a profound sense of honour, not Brutes.

Like I said, 343 Industries must have a very different idea of things.

< Insert witty comment/joke here >

Benjamin!

There've been cases of Elites not acting honourably even under Bungie's control. Halo: The Flood, for instance, callous execution of prisoners (E.g Rick Hale)
The Elites might be an honourable race, but I've always been under the impression that many saw humanity as less than animals, and treated them as such. This view point gained from blind faith in their Prophet's words.

Do all Humans share the same values? No? then why should all Sangeili? Different Elites have different views on the subject of honor. That makes sense.

@BK Burger Boy:
You're not going to fight against something your culture regards as a demon and has slaughtered hundreds if not thousands of your "brothers" the same way you fight against someone you regard as your equal or a very worthy opponent.

@Slade:

Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your time than troll Reach?
