People should still give Halo 2 a chance if they haven't played it yet.

Every time I hear about Halo 4 or any of the next coming Halo titles. There always seems to be the few people that run on and on about the Halo Universe fusing with Marathon.

Where did this start from. Why does it always go hand in hand wit each other. Anyone free for discussion?

It's not camping, it's holding the designated location.

I think it came from an person who was looking up random stuff and saw that Marathon takes place about 200 years after Halo and thought: MC was in cryo sleep at the end of Halo 3, and you don't age in cryo sleep but you still move forward in time, so in 200 years MC would still be the same, so I think they will combine Marathon and Halo even though 343i does not own any rights to Marathon.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

Marathon and Halo are canonically irreconcilable. The reason people make a link between Halo and Marathon is because they share a number of visual and thematic motifs. However, even most of the similarities are on a fairly superficial level at that.

Other than that, I suppose it's also because of the tons of continuity nods that were made to Marathon when Halo was still in development and the connections that already existed between bungie's other games. While I admit that it would have been cool to have a huge continuity between various games, the fact that bungie no longer owns the rights to myth or halo will mean that while we will probably never know what the connection between the great devoid and marathon is, it also means that bungie doesn't have to worry about losing any rights to marathon, which I'm guessing could have become a possibility if it had been made explicitly connected with their other properties.

That one still has me puzzled. Even coming up with possible connections is difficult. Though Marathon's infatuation with dreaming and Myth's Dream magic is one possible connection I've considered over the years.
