Subject: Custom Edition Has Better Netcode?

I was asking one of my friends why he uses Halo Custom Edition to play servers with the default maps. He said that Custom Edition has a slightly better netcode than standard Halo.

Is this true? If so I think I will be playing a lot more Custom Edition. The lag and modded servers on Halo pc get annoying sometimes.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I remember one of the changelogs said that the "warping" effect was reduced when players lagged a lot. I don't think anything else changed.

Halo Custom Edition has slight improvements over the original Halo PC in a lot of places. That's why I like to play it on default maps. It also has better servers (Most of the time)

So, it doesn't have as much lead your shots? I was never any good at that although i am starting to get the hang of it. Halo PC would have been one of my favourite PC games had the netcode been better...for now it's BF2 ;)

Nah, I don't really see any difference there, it just has less jumpiness. (and that's only on default maps. :P)

Ah okay, in that case i may as well stick to Halo PC, only really used Custom Edition for the modded maps anyway ;)

In Halo CE you still have to lead you shots like in Halo PC, although player warping and teleporting has been fixed.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

CE has slightly better netcode, a MOTD/Gametype info box when you join, SV_SAY, and Custom Maps.

Yep, those are some of the slight improvements I was talking about. Its essentially something closer to what it should have been in the first place... yet still no where near it. :P

Things included in the new executable are "Fast Shaders" (improves performance up to 60% on pixel shader hardware), improved network code (reduces the incidence of player "warping"), and lots of new features that provide options for players to improve their multiplayer games. Perhaps, most importantly, however, the new executable allows end users to play a potentially endless volume of new content created with the Halo Editing Kit.

But the reality was that most of that was just hype, Gearbox didn't fix the bloody netcode like they said they would, and left lots of users annoyed.

improve network code, not a fixed one.
They improved the rockets of the rocket warthogs fired. (not sure what interview I got this from)
Another improvement is that you don't see high pingers (200+) warp all over the place. Which you do see in HaloPC.

But yeah I can understand the disappointment at that time.
