I personally browse the forums quite a lot, much like any other member, but I can't help but notice some member post far more than the rest of the community.

Now I'm not calling anyone out or asking for heads to roll, my question is simple: is there a point when you post so much you are actually spamming the forums?

Now I know certain member titles like "Intrepid" require a lot posts...But not 30 posts a day.

I guess my question is: Should there be some sort of limit? Should there be increased regulation on posting vs. spam? should members be auto-sent a warning when they are posting too often in one day? What do community... What do?

Again, this is just my observation, not calling anyone out here or demanding blood.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Creating or replying?

I am unaware of any reply cap but am aware that there is a creation limit.

To me, that makes a lot of sense.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

There is a reply cap, but it's much shorter than the creating cap.

Though I don't mind. There's no notice that goes out with a bounty on my head if I hit it. I just stumble a few times and re-click send...

Edit: Strike that, I thought we were talking about post frequency.

On topic, I would be very disappointed if I was limited to the number of posts per day. I've already made 17 today, and that's a bit below average.

Those that post often and on topic would be cut off halfway through the day, leaving much of the knowledgeable community out of discussions (I'm making an assumption that those that post frequently typically know what they are talking about.)

Reply cap.
I know there is already a measure to limit how fast you can post. What I am referring to is the number of posts per day.

No. Sure, there are some people who post too much and just cause spam...however, there are others that have legitmate posts for all of their posts. For instance, I post way more than 30 a day if you include private groups.

There is a reply throttle (based on time between posts), but no limit (that I know of) on how many times you can reply in topics during the course of your visit.

There is currently a limit on how fast you can post again after a making post but a limit to how many times you can post a day is a bit of a stretch...

I admit, some people post just to hear the sound of their keys clicking but thats why we have mods. Post random crap on a random forum, spam and g'bye.

I don't think there's a limit. But I think what you have to take into account is - if someone's firing off posts every thirty seconds, they're hardly going to be of immense quality.
Quality, not quantity kids.

This would exclude private groups.
Most creators of those can enforce posting with greater easy then on the public forums.
I have suggested they could be dealt with on a case by case basis, but the mods arn't gods, they can't run around and individually handle all million+ of us.
and I also gave 30 posts as an example, I'm sure if a posting limit were put in place it would be much higher then that.

I think it is about time I found out... Well, I guess there is techincally a limit in a day, right? Somewhere around 2880 posts

I understand the create limit, you dont need to create more than 7 threads, or like 1 a day for that matter.

But there is no need for a reply limit, what if you start a decent convo?

My point exactly.
The mods can't be checking every post someone makes to see if they are reasonable.
So to prevent this, have a cap, or a non-lethal warning when a certain post number has been reached.
Some people have a reason for posting, some don't.

A conversation may at best last 50 replys.
But when you see people start treating a thread like a chat room, or someone keeps replying to everybody, your starting to create confusion about the thread, and end up bumping it to the top for no reason.
Maybe a limit per topic. Not sure exactly, thats why I turned to the community to disect this idea.

I would agree, but the mods can't moniter every member on at once.
Unless O-o.....

the limit would have to be reset daily, just look at some of the top topics, people have posted there hundreds of times, it all seems like effort to me.

The limit would be reset daily.
And there could even be a limit on a forum to forum basis (i.e. flood = no limit, community = 100, classifieds = 20, etc).
Just my thought.
