Subject: A question on the CMS of BNET

"Before you insult someone, try walking a mile in their shoes. This way, when you insult them, you are a mile away and have their shoes."

I know this does not interest a few of you. If it doesn't, please refrain from making off-topic replies.

I have been working on sites for quite a while, but (apart from Joomla/Nuke), I have not seen a single content management system (CMS for short) as good as the one that exists on Bungie.net. Does anybody know which CMS B.net uses, or if it was custom made?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Do you perhaps know what framework/database system it was built on?

Nope, I'm computer illiterate. I only know what I've seen the web team post previously. Hopefully one of them can float by this thread and shed more light on the subject :-)

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

I wouldn't call it "good." It is old and needs to be replaced, much like the forums.

But I wrote it (it is is custom). It runs (like everything else on bungie.net) on .NET, using ASP.NET WebForms, using C#. And we use MS SQL Server for database stuff.

These forums are beautiful. What is necessary that would make them need to be replaced?

Is there any plans for that in the near future?

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

I've seen the golden guy with the creepy face avatar say that the web team hired Ideal Science (who develops web/forum software) to make a database and forum system that was completely custom tailored; though this software (I'm assuming they still use it) is at least 10 years old, so it might not be the best out there...

Edit: oh, beat me to it.

Whilst the system may be old, it's most certainly stable. Are you planning to ever release this CMS [framework possibly], if BNET stops using it?

What is a CMS?

It's basically a database for communities, where information is given and retrieved. Websites with forums rely on these.

I might be geting CMS and "forums" confused, but I thought IdealScience* had a hand in laying down the foundation for Bungie.net.

Cool story, battle bro!

Also, the game.

Bungie forums are the easiest to navigate, imo.

When it doubt, google it.

Pretty much all you'll ever need to know about website technology is already on the web, for free.

That's what my coworker said the day before he got fired for internet misuse.

Jk, but seriously, google with care. Figured the CMS was custom. Probably not too friendly to people trying to come in and learn it though.
