Would you have to by new hardware like videocards? I've got a Nvidia gt 6600 256Mb card and thinking of buying one more for SLI configuration. Will the videocard of today support DirectX 10?

Your current video card will work with Vista. http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html

DX10 cards are not available yet and current DX9 cards are not capable of running DX10. Games and stuff will play with Vista and DX9 but all the new eye candy will be only available to those with the new video cards that support DX10.

Thanx for the link!

Hm... Maybe it's better to save the money for a new video card when the new ones that support DX10 has been released...

Windows 98 is the fastest operating system out there beleive it or not.

Not true. My box boots 17 seconds quicker with XP than it did with 98.
At any rate, the fastest OS is not really a measurable statistic, because speed is relative to what the OS actually does.

If you want to get down and dirty about it, some F/OSS variant will be the "fastest" OS available. Probably always will be.

Listen kids. How long did it take the Far Cry 64bit expanded content to be cracked and put on Windows XP x32? It took about a week. That is how long it will take for someone to crack the Halo2 to get it to work on Windows XP.

Obviously most people are using it than Vista because VISTA ISN'T EVEN OUT YET!!!

Vista will undoubtedly become the default operating system unusually fast. It is similiar to XP in every way but looks better cosmetically and performs far better.

To tell you the truth, if Halo 2 came out on an old 2001 operating system, I would not buy it. But I can tell you it is going to RULE on Vista.

Well, they wont release it for XP becuz Vista is new and they want more people to buy it and not just stick to XP. Actully, google Windows Vista, it sounds pretty cool, anyways i need a new comp so im looking forward to vista and halo 2. it'll cost about $500.00 but its worth it!

Because it runs faster doesn't mean that it's stable. Hell, Dos 6.22 is lightning fast, does that mean it's better than XP?

Yes.

DOS ownz.

The switch from xp to vista is starting to sound like the same old win98 to xp nightmare, just worse. I'm sorry, but I don't care how pretty my os looks. Why does M$ have to come out with some flashy, bubbly RAM-glutton that will inevitably suck balls? I remember when I found out that xp took 128 MB of RAM just to run half-decently. I was absolutely shocked. And if that isn't bad enough, vista is going to want more. I swear I'm going to make the complete switch to *nix someday, to hell with online gaming.

I love it!

So you want to keep on using the same old OS till the end of days? It's been 5 years of XP now, and although it was a new and good OS when it came out, it's starting to show it's age now.

Vista is going to be a completely new OS, the visual updates are just the topping on the cake that has a completely new receipe.

Technology evolves, especially in the computer business. You expect applications and games to be better, faster, nicer and more powerful in general, but you don't want to switch to a new OS? You cant build a skyscraper on the fundaments of a small country cottage. If you can't handle a change, dust off your commodore64 and have fun...

What you want seems to be stagnant waiting. If new operating systems were not concieved, then there would be no way that we could utilize the power of new technology that constantly comes out. 98 can't handle the kind of power systems have now. If we didn't upgrade, then you would still be looking at "shoddy" graphics (they were good at the time). Also, almost any distrobution of linux updates, some as often as every 6 months. The only difference is that it's free. Also, there are plenty of free, open source games for linux that you can play online. If you hate windows that much, check out Cedega for linux. It allows you to play games that are native to windows.

Cyrborger, I'd like to personally thank you for bumping a week-old thread.

If it isn't on the first 3 pages, it's old. Besides, your post is...er...flawed. An OS install won't lose any of your files, just change the OS.
