"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

I think it's a Forerunner-MJOLNIR armor hybrid.

It has elements that no ODST or Spartan armor ever had:

Complete armored fingers
Remember that the Forerunners in Halo legends has armored fingers too. Then if you look at the Chiefs gauntlets in Halo 4 you see it has another weird shape unseen in previous UNSC body armors. It's curious how the Chiefs gauntlet has nearly the same shape as a FR combat skin gauntlet. Both gauntlets have a darker color in the middle of them.

Notice the similarities of the gauntlets?

Now take a look at the fingers:

They too look similar to the FR equivelants

Then there are also other elements in the Halo 4 armor that are different then the previous MJONLIR variants like the feets and knee parts.

So i think it's a MJOLNIR-Combat skin variant,he will probably get this updated armor inside the LD.Maybe Mendicant prepared everything for his arrival like a cache of weapons and this armor.

First of all Johnson has not become white in Halo 3 and second all of the changes from Halo 2 to Halo 3 can easily be explained through each of the characters reequiping themselves. Like the Chief could have had to replace his gauntlets after a fight onboard Truth's ship. His gauntlets are small enough that it isnt beyond reason to say he had spare gauntlets with him. Changing his ENTIRE suit however and doing this while in stasis in the vacuum of space is a bit different. The Arbiter probably returned to his fleet to re-educate the Elites about the humans and re equip his armor with the additions you see in Halo 3. Same could be said for Rtas and his shoulder pads. Again the Chief however is a bit more restricted by being alone in cryo in deep space so he should have virtually no changes to his armor.

Walk softly, and carry a big midget.

It isn't the finished product (Similar to Chief's armour in the Halo CEA Traler) so it'll look different in the final game.

It'll still look a bit different because it's a new game. Hopefuly it'll look a lot more like the Hlao 3 Chief.

Well, in MY mind it's a jetpack... so no use in arguing.

It's a thruster, all of the Spartans have always had them. If you're really that stubborn you must be mildly retarded.
