I was looking at the website and I believe they are truly spectacular gaming rigs, however, I was told they're not good. Does anyone have one and can tell me how well it runs? And I was wondering which desktop would be the best, cuz I am getting a job soon and I want to save up to get one.

Theyre very nice, especially since dell just bought them (or theyre going to buy them soon). The only complaints ive heard were about customer support, but again, since dell bought them things have changed. If you know how to build a computer, it would be much cheaper to use the same exact parts and build it yourself. But since most people dont know how to, its just easier to buy a pre-built one. Unless your making a ton of money, don buy the best because it will just be old technology a year from now, and you'l be dissapointed when you want to upgrade but you already spent alot.

Like most high end computers, I think it is a rip-off. Anyone that knows about computer parts and their costs will tell you that they are. Theyre nice, but if you were to build it using hte same parts it would come out alot less.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Don't buy one. You pay too much just for the name and case.
I would also advise you to build your own.
I built mine in about 2.5 hours, without looking at a building manual more than twice. It's my first time building one too.
Most of the instructions you need come with the parts.

I'm not trying to discourage you from buying one, also check out the dell xps desktops. Theyre also great gaming computers and have similar preformance, but also cost less.

I remember the first time I built my computer. It only took me like an hour to get it all together and windows loaded. Its alot easier than you think.

I highly suggest checking out http://www.short-media.com and register at the forums. I've been a member of this site for almost 2 years and there are alot of incredibly smart people there who love to help out and talk about computers. So if you, or anyone here have any questions about anything related to computers, and other electronics, dont be afraid to ask because I guarenteee you'l find the answer your looking for.

If you have the money to spare, and don't feel like building your own, then they are great. If you want to save some money, get better performance for the same amount of money, while taking more time to build, then building your own is probably the best cost/performace option. If you know what you are doing, and bide your time for good deals, then I would say build your own, but if you are not so good with the different parts or don't have the time to build a computer, go with alienware or some one like that.

Yeah, i'm probably going to build my next computer, but if I was to lazy to build my own computer (and had money) I'd get an Alienware.

Another thing, if you do decide to build a pc, you can have it set up and working in about 1/2 the time that it would take to get a pc shipped to your house. If you customize an alienware, dell, or just about any other compnay online, it usuauly takes about 2+ weeks to receive it because they have to assemble it themselves, and then send it out. If you buy the parts from a site like newegg, it may only take 4-5 days to get to your house, and you can have it running that day. Just another thing to consider.

Yeah there nice and if uve got the money you can get a really nice computer. If you know how to build a computer that would be a better idea cuz its cheaper for the same performance. But if you really like the case mod and have a limited budget, like i did, get a basic Alienware system and then buy your own stuff to upgrade it.

id personally rather get a voodoopc than an alienware. but... ive never looked into prices... voodoo could be more overpriced than alienware. i dont really like alienware that much. the cases are a bit too flashy to me.

go custom. just ask if you want recommendations for parts. lots of us here know whats good and whats bad.

oh, and for some reason its been discovered that ATI renders halo better than nvidia, especially in the camo department.

They're good computers, but the reason everyone says they suck is because they (the Alienware PCs) are hideously overpriced.

You can build a $5,000 Alienware computer for $1,500-$2,000.

the only manufacturer that is more overpriced than alienware is apple.

somehow, i dont think the word "hideous" can express how overpriced alienware and apple are. there... just isnt a word... for it.

apparently youve never heard of Voodo Pc's or Falcon Pc's . These are the most overpriced computers you can buy. Just look at the base model prices.

Alienwares are not that overpriced. (i mean they are, just not as much as you said)

For a $5000 alienware, it would cost you around $2500-3000.

If you have the money just go custom. It is still cheaper then the Alienware. (plus you can get neon lights and put them in your clear glass case... it will blind you yes... but the 4 seconds you get to see it... its awesome...)

I have an Alienware, and it's great. I would've built one, but I didn't want to. Oh, and it's the Area 51 series, to answer the other question.

When you build your own comp you learn so much about how things work, and its just a good feeling to know that you can build your own computer.

The main problem with alienwares, as with all bought desktop PCs, is that they are massively lacking in 1 or more areas, usually graphics, hard drive or memory, or quite often all three. Alienware get around this by making your order semi-customisable, like for a very hefty price you can add a graphics card onto the system over the integrated stuff, but it goes nowhere to solve the problem.

The other main problem is that they pre-load every driver, add on and piece of software imaginable meaning the OS is insanely slow, especially when combined with the piss-poor hard drives that Alienware utilise; usually 2mb PATA deelies with nowhere near enough space.

I say build your own. I did it, and am damn glad I did. It really isn't that hard, and everything I purchased had installation instruction's.

I've never overpaid for a Mac. They do something no PC can do: Run OS X. And that's priceless.
