It can most defintely be flood, forerunner or even precursor. Nothing rules any of that out. Hell, it could even be ancient humans locked away in this shield world. The last book in the forerunner series' description talks of humans being locked away in these shield worlds:
"Captured by the Master Builder, misplaced during a furious battle in space, they now find themselves on an inverted world where horizons rise into the sky, and where humans of all kinds are trapped in a perilous cycle of horror and neglect. For they have become both research animals and strategic pawns in a cosmic game whose madness knows no end--a game of ancient vengeance between the powers who seeded the galaxy with life, and the Forerunners who expect to inherit their sacred Mantle of duty to all living things."
Also in that quote, it makes it pretty obvious that the Forerunners have a very selfish agenda at hand, and are even experimenting with humans. Interesting.
That is talking specifically about Primordium, the second Forerunner book, not the last, still about 100,000 or so years into the past before the Human-Covenant War. And that is the work of the former Master Builder, Faber, he is the only true monster and -blam!- we've seen from amongst the Forerunners. He and whoever loyally followed him completely are the minority amongst the Forerunners as a whole and they and their twisted experiments don't exemplify their race as a whole. And it is not talking about a Shield World, it's talking about a Halo ring.
You're taking the quote completely out of its greater context. And you're not right about the Forerunners at all.
I apologize for -blam!- on the Forerunners. Sorry, I misinterpreted that quote. But if you read the beginning of the description for that book (primordium) Chakas' (an ancient human) recording is talking to the Chief and telling him these stories which I think is going to tie into Halo 4, or at least one of the new games in the new trilogy.
No you're allowed to rage at the Forerunners, haha XD 'Cause they're not exactly the nicest of people, I was just correcting what was in error. I didn't see it as rage anyway :/ Sorry if I came across too strong...I think I've seen too many unintelligent comments recently (not that your post was unintelligent) so I guess I'm a bit on edge :/
That is pretty definite, I think it's quite safe to assume that Chakas is talking to Chief, and we know that the whole Forerunner trilogy will tie in with Halo 4. I really can't wait :D
