Excuse my bad english guys, i would say i like a lot this logo from a long time now, i played all Marathon series when i was young on my Mac LC630. You understand what i mean lol ?!

however, i'm creating a jewel of the logo for me and i would like to know if i can use my own "variant" of it for my company.

I don't know what you mean by "jewel". If you wanted to use it for your company, you would need to talk with Microsoft since they own the rights to the symbol. Truthfully, I don't think Microsoft is that nice.

I think you need to get permission from Bungie to use it for your business.
They own the image :/

copyright on an existing logo expires 45 years after the death of the creator of said logo.

Those are all very cool.

Technically speaking the logo does not belong to Microsoft. It is intellectual property of Bungie since it was created by Bungie way before they went under contract with Microsoft. Even though it does appear in the Halo universe its more of an homage to Marathon rather than direct cannon from the Halo universe. As of right now Marathon is open source. Meaning that code is available to the public (there's even some indie developer making a port of Marathon for the iPad) So I would think Bungie wouldn't mind you making a design for jewelry so long as you don't try to make money out of it.
