<------Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 emblem.

I think I have stumbled upon changing your name with the use of a linked gamertag.

Initially my account and gamertag was Mad Ogamons. I verified this by looking at some of my posts from several years ago (I even saw a post where I insulted Foman - can't do that anymore since he's a ninja!). To my surprise, the title would say "Anonymous User, Deleted."

Sometime about 1 year after Halo 3, I decided to cancel my account because I thought my account information had been stolen. I contacted Microsoft in efforts to remedy this issue. Fortunately, this was not the case, and my account still existed. However, I still changed my Windows Live ID and password.

I then tried signing in to Bungie.net here with this new ID, and I looked at my profile ID, it was Kannan (a name assigned to my new Windows Live ID) and not Mad Ogamons. I disregarded this and attributed it to the shift.

Now that I look back several years later, my posts as Mad Ogamons have been deleted, but this account's creation date is still 4/3/2007.

My questions that result from this experience are as follows:
a) Is this name-changing system intentional to accommodate for sudden changes in Windows Live IDs like mine?

b) Why weren't the old posts still attributed to this account? I know for a fact that this account is still the same because of my creation date.

c) Why did my name get switched? (I was never prompted to enter Kannan as my profile name - I just logged on one day and it had been changed).

How did you "assign a name" to the new Windows Live ID?

I'm not sure about the name change, but if you're not active for a certain amount of time your account will automatically be deleted.

No, it won't.

Hmmm, that is rather interesting. Hopefully the web team or Microsoft can answer this because I have no idea whatsoever.

I'm not sure, but Kannan is the first name on my Windows Live ID. I know accounts get deleted. But somehow 2 clones of the same account with different names were created - one was deleted, the other remains.

No, it won't.

Since when? It's always been if you're not active for a year your account is deleted.

That was apparently disabled some time ago.

Account deletion was disabled a few months back.

Well poop, I'm not up to date. Why was it removed?

Known by some, but not by all.

Just keep your account. It's unique. Years from now you will be glad you did.

Well account deletion has been shut off now, so I'm not sure if it's still possible. I'm willing to try this out, though.

I love my b.net account. I've had it legitimately for 4 years. I'm not quite sure if you read the original post.

And after my digging, here's the thread where my account is deleted, but I'm quoted so it's definitely me:

Older Post [Scroll up one post to see what Foman was responding to]

And those who dig further into my profile, please ignore some of the content I've posted...it's quite...immature.
