This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

The Portal shut when the Frigate was passing through. The Arbiter was at the bridge in the front and the Master Chief was in Cargo at the back bottom.

Arbiter managed to pass through, while the Chief did not.

Forward Unto Dawn was travelling through the portal. Mendicant Bias directed the Arbiter and the forward half of the ship he was in back to Earth but directed John and the aft half of the ship to the "Legendary Planet" to atone for his (Mendicant Bias's) sins.

If you don't know who Mendicant Bias is and/or what his sins are, read the Terminals.

Not really. John went through the portal, he just got directed somewhere different. This is where Halo 4 will be taking place.

The Mendicant Bias bit is speculation, dude.

It's in the Terminals...

Yes, but it's rarely contested. He specifically says he's "sending [Master Chief] to [his (MB's)] makers."

Being as Mendicant can specifically control Forerunner tech, it would make sense that this is how MC survived the Halo activation, but did not reach Earth.

It's pretty concrete. Have you even read the Terminals?

Mendicant Bias was not destroyed. He was in a conflict with Offensive Bias, but MB escaped on the last Forerunner Dreadnought, the "keyship" that activates the portal on Earth in Halo 3.

It's because of Arby being in the front half of the ship. the second half got cut off and teleported to a "random" location. an-wait, leave the "frigit"? chife didn't really have any were to go and went into cryo-sleep.

It showed him on the rear half of the Forward Unto Dawn (the same ship he was on at the end of Halo 3) headed toward the Legendary Planet.

Bias seems to be dead at the end of Halo 3. Even he says: "And here, at the end of my life --"

No, John made it through too. The portal simply changed destinations - this was proven in Origins where you see the 7 Halo Rings enter the portal at the same time and they end up in different locations.
