Subject: Mods, how many bans does it take to be permabanned?

Currently, I have 6 bans on my ban history. How many bans do I have left before I am permabanned?

The mods on this site NEVER answer my private messages so if this was supposed to be private messaged, I'm sorry.

There isn't a number. It's based on offenses. If you do something really bad, you'll get permabanned. I've got over a good dozen bans myself.

  • 08.11.2011 4:45 PM PDT

It doesn't matter how many bans it's what your banned for.

If you make it obvious that you care more about using your account for spam over using it to interact in discussion with the community, then the Moderators will deem your account worthless to you, and will permaban you from using it.

That's my take on it anyway.

  • 08.11.2011 4:47 PM PDT

It's not based on how many bans a user has had in the past, but on how severe the offense is.

So if I get up to 20 bans I'm still okay?

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

This, it's not quantity, it's quality with permabans.

If I get 20 bans, would I still be okay?

If they're all minor, probably. You shouldn't be getting banned so much though. Learn from your mistakes and you'll be fine.

I've been trying to. But people can't learn to take an opinion or a rant and there is too many helpless ninjas.

Ummm... Don't post opinions if you know they're going to make someone mad and turn into a flame war, if you don't know if it will, don't post it.
Don't go on rants, as most rants are usually pointless and blind.

Did I help?

It's not against the rules to post something inflammatory. It only becomes against the rules if you do it with the sole purpose of starting a flame war.

Awhile ago, I posted a thread in the Flood about an author who wrote a book analyzing multiple studies, and found that women were better than men a lot of the time. Inflammatory? yes. Against the rules? No.

Posting a topic about how you don't like Halo Reach isn't against the rules. Posting "Halo Reach sucks and if you like it you're a retard" is.

I never stated that it was against the rules, I was simply stating cautionary aids to keep from getting banned.

Some people can't resist replying to the people that try to start a flame war off of their opinion. If it comes to that, at least stick to PM's.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Young Boy - Dad, how many pokes with a stick before that dog bites me?

Wise Father - Son, it's not a matter of how many that you get in before he bites you, it's the one that makes him bite you that you should be worried about. You see, dogs aren't counting pokes.

They'll take the first poke or two and figure that you're a dumbass kid who doesn't know any better. Then, if you keep on poking, they'll growl deep in their chest thinking that should get the message through. But, if you keep it up, then they will snarl and show their teeth. If you keep on poking, well, sooner or later they will rip your throat out. Does that make them a mean dog? No, it means they were a pretty damned patient dog, a mean one would have torn into you just for pointing a stick at it.

Young Boy - Dad?

Wise Father - Yes son?

Young Boy - I see that dog can also lick his privates. Did you ever wish that you could do that?

Wise Father - Well son, I guess that you could, but you'd probably better pet him first.

  • 08.11.2011 5:21 PM PDT

Not the end to that story I was expecting.

Not the end to that story I was expecting.

I've found that a sharp barb at the end of a smooth story helps it to stick in people's memory.

Either that or I am a sick and filthy old bastard.

  • 08.11.2011 5:26 PM PDT

Now now- don't sell yourself short. They can both be true!

I don't say anything when my dog licks his butt and then goes into the other room and starts licking my brother's face. There I said it.

The mods on this site NEVER answer my private messages so if this was supposed to be private messaged, I'm sorry.
It's not necessarily the number of bans you receive, but how severe the bans are. If the moderators see that you are purposely ignoring their warnings and continuing to violate the same rules over and over again within a certain time frame, they will take away your permissions permanently.

Someone didn't like the dog/stick metaphor.

The biggest factor determining what kind of ban/warning you get is what you did. Shock site links are instant permaban, whereas a little bit of spam may only be a warning.
