I can't find that article on bungie.net. Can someone tell me what counts as "trolling"?

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

This definition is half-assed. Anyone here can get their name known simply by posting a series of controversial and applicable topics and having them garner tons of replies, but if those topics can have notions that engender enough aversion to generate hateful and/or emotional replies, then you can consider the poster a troll.

See right there is the beauty of trolling. The OP is clearly either genuinely ignorant, or blatantly trolling. It is impossible two tell, and most people can simply change their idea's freely on the internet and use trolling as a fall-back excuse to get out of looking like an idiot.

If he is trolling, anyone who takes their time to explain trolling is essentially getting "trolled", some low-level trolls even take it a step deeper to the 7th level of hell and proclaim people who call someone out on their attempt to troll a product of their intended trolling.

OP, if you're legitimately asking, think of trolling as something that the smartest people ignore, and the dumbest people perpetuate.

Sorta like Trojans.

Am I being trolled?

I don't really get where people started getting this "you're getting trolled if you react" stuff from...taking the several seconds to a few minutes to reply to something doesn't exactly hold any emotional value.

  • 08.12.2011 7:50 PM PDT

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Agreed, if it's a seemingly legit question and I take time to answer it I don't particularly feel I've been trolled. Shouldn't it only be considered trolling if it elicits an emotional response or some other non-desired outcome?

Trolling is posting to intentionally piss someone off to provoke a response.

See, that's the beauty of it. Obviously it doesn't matter to you that you replied to the troll. But it matters to you that they say it does and call their trolling successful because of it. So you keep replying and replying. Soon, you've got hundred page threads in the Reach forum about nothing all because one guy made the thread title "I'm better than you".

The only way to avoid a troll is to stop replying or to not reply in the first place.

The other "great" aspect of trolling is that if someone posts something moronic and is called out on it, they'll tell you they were just trolling and that they got you. In reality, they're just idiots who can't stand ever being wrong and like to annoy people for the sake of annoying people.

On topic: If you don't know what trolling is, just be a nice person. That's not so hard is it?

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

HFCS FAQ I assume that's the article you're talking about.
