Subject: Spartans falling from space

I've just watched the latest Fails of the Weak and I've finally lost it.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but everyone keeps saying that that Spartans can survive a fall from space, most likely due to the ending of Long Night of Solace. But am I the only one that noticed he was wearing a special harness on his back which should have broken Noble six's fall. this is also the same harness which 6 retrieves a pistol from at the start of Exodus.

Or maybe my copy of Halo:Reach is different to everyone else's.

Spartans cannot survive a fall from space into atmosphere without some form of help.

Chief had a forerunner...door or something, 6 had a re-entry pack and ODSTs have SOEIVs.

Even with that stuff I think Spartans have fun with falling from space.

This.
Add to that the MJOLNIR armors can lock themselves to take most of the impact. Thats also what you see with Chief at the start of H3 when he crash lands a piece of debris from the Forerunner Dreadnaught.

Also, in the Halo Graphic Novel there is a comic in which a Spartan (Maria) jumps from a Pelican in orbit and uses a sort of reentry pack with a folded parachute inside to finally get to the surface of the planet.

Space-to-planet insertions aren't unknown things to Spartans, but they sure as hell can not survive them without any form of help.

Chief used the door only as a heat shield, he didn't have anything at all to help him land or anything like that, the heat is the only real problem they will encounter when dropping from an atmosphere without a droppod liked the ODSTs use.

I like to think that too. Yeah, it sort of sucks that Reach is pretty much boned, but hey, terminal velocity and atmospheric reentry.

So it appears no one hear has read "Fall of Reach"

(all though it was near orbit)

Just like the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know...except Bungie.

Re-Entry pack. And if I remember correctly, in one of the novels (either FoR or First Strike), the SPARTANs sent groundside to defend the ODP's fusion generators had to bail out from a Pelican in high atmosphere. Even with locked armor and an overpressurized gel layer, they suffered serious injuries and several deaths. So they would not survive re-entry without some sort of device to aid them.

I like MC's innovation.

Grab a piece of Covenant Hull Heat Shielding, and go for broke.

Very slick.

We should know better, because we are better.

If they were to jump from orbit with nothing slowing them and just hit the ground, then yes, they will die. But in all the cases of jumping from orbit they either slowed their fall with a re-entry pack or similar method, or hit tried to hit water.
