I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

No way!

Most of the time what was quoted in the quote that you're quoting is the relevant quote for your quote to quote.

This is quote a bad idea.
Yo dawg...

It would make catching up with any discussion on later pages difficult, IMO. Other times, during certain piece-by-piece discussions that are full of broken down and nested quotes... That would be difficult as well.

It'd be nice if it automatically filtered out the innermost-quote in a pyramid if the pyramid was over the nested limit, but that's as far as I'd let it go.

What is there to save, anyway?
You'd scroll a little less. It would look neater.
Yes, at the expense of ease of discussion and quoting.
Why would you want to complicate the system with a "default" and other options?

Key

No.

There should be a separate button next to the quote button that says something to the affect of "quote recent" or something like that. If they could find one word so that it looked good against the other buttons down there (all of which are one word) that would be nice but it shouldn't replace quoting.

What if a person comes upon a post and sees someone quoting someone else while they are in the midst of a conversation and wants context? All that context is lost when the "quote-pyramid" disappears.

The quote pyramid is for the benefit of the other users, not the poster or the person being responded to. They were in the conversation, they know what happened.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

I've wanted this for a while. 99/100 I either cut out all the inner ones, or would do if I wasn't so lazy.

I just wish people would stop posting on top of the quote. It belongs underneath. That is the proper way to do it. Unless you're dissecting a large post and addressing key issues one at a time and you separate them into separate quotes. That's permissible .

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I think that only being able to quote the person you are replying too and making you manually quote others could be a good ides.

this is why i made that one script where it only quotes the outmost quote, or at least the bottom quote.

we should not have just one button

The other day, we had somebody in the flood spamming giant walls of text. Somebody quoted it once, and asked a question. A good number of other people proceeded to quote him, and not snip the previous wall of text. Needless to say, the thread died because you had to scroll for a good thirty seconds to get to the bottom of the page, and any worthwhile posts were hidden amongst giant walls of text.

In short, I agree.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I am against this idea. I love quote pyramids. Sometimes they are necessary.

Quote pyramids are never necessary, they're eyesores. If you want multiple quotes just drop them separately and not all in one.

I support this idea, I would love a drop down box that allows you to choose how many blocks of quote will be copied into the text field.
Such as choosing 2 will look like:
A
B

While choosing 1 will only quote A.

Dating Age

For those looking to vent, get proper advice, or give it to those in need.

I'm indifferent to it. I try not to post mega quotes and limit it to the exact post I'm responding to. At the same time it's convenient to see what the quoted post is a response to so easily.

Maybe take the maximum number of quotes down to two or three rather than five.

I like what your going with....But wouldn't an auto delete be easier?

What I mean is, when you reach the cap for quoting, it simply deletes the most inner post.

Basically like your idea, just it doesn't delete unless its reached its max....

Just a thought.

You know, sometimes I think that quoting the most relevant of quotes is common sense... how often am I proven wrong? All of the time.

While I like the idea of cutting down on the quote function, I still feel it is important. Without such 'bulkiness' users would be confused as to what the user is stating when they compare it to the last quote only. Perhaps it should be cut down from 5 to 3, but that is as far as I fell it need to move to

Problem. This would make it immensely difficult to retrieve OPs that use quotes to layout aspects of a thread.

No, sometimes I like to see where something being quoted originated from.

If a quote pyramid gets too long, I, like Skibur, cut out/organize the quote myself.

An alternative I would like to propose is to have a "quote" button and a "multi-quote" button. I got this idea from the EA UK forums and I think it's great. Basically "quote" is just quoting the text that you respond to, nothing else. Not even if the post you decide to quote already has a quote in it. "Multi-quote" on the other hand, includes any other quotes in the post that you want to quote. In short, "multi-quote" is basically the quote that we have now.

What are we supposed to be discussing here?

"Nothing in the 'Verse can stop me."

I would like that but I don't see how it would be made. The quotes themselves become a part of a users post so how would the site know what to filter and what to leave?
