Solution: Do it yourself... I have for the last 7+ years. I even format other peoples quotes correctly when I quote them...

I am a stickler for neat posts.
Not quite. OPs proposal would require removing the contents of quote tags within a post. It would be a pain to copy and paste and fix all the links and formatting...

Does anyone even read these?

I would like an option to quote last, but maybe not have it as the only option.

But then no one would use it unless it was the only option. I don't really care all that much either way, but it's a good idea.

My shit bacteria takes offense to that comparison.

Don't make me lel. You won't like me when I lel.

Make it an option, not a default.

Also anyone who writes first and has the quote beneath their reply should be shot.

Any idea is a good one. I like it being optional

It's completely counter-intuitive (you read TOP to BOTTOM) and makes quote trees all retarded when there's that one guy quoting under his text.

I think that is a good idea, as I hate when I get the "cannot quote more than 5 strings together" (or something like that) as I am usually too lazy to just manually quote the last person.

This is quote a bad idea.

Is that your attempt at a pun? It's disgustingly awful.

Quote pyramids are already limited to 5. I don't see a need to restrict it any further.

In fact, there have been many times when I would have preferred to keep a quote chain going for the purpose of continuity, but had to remove one of the posts just so it didn't exceed 5.

No.

It's better how it is. And you can read conversations or arguments in the threads easier.

For the sake of brevity, I propose that quoting a post which contains a quote with nesting deeper than one level, have its inner quotes removed and only the outermost quotes remain.

I think this is a bad idea, mostly because of this...

Most of the time what was quoted in the quote that you're quoting is the relevant quote for your quote to quote.

I've always taken the extra 5 seconds of my time to properly format anything I'm quoting. If I'm only responding to a specific part of a post, I delete the irrelevant parts. I do agree that the forums sometimes get a tad messy because of quoting, but that's squarely on the shoulders of us forum users and not anything on the technical side of it. If you want me to put in the effort to read your post, you need to put in the effort to clean it up. Whether it's editing a quote or a quick spell-check, if each person takes a little of the responsibility on their own shoulders, it will go a long way to making this place a little more pretty.

Almost a ghost.

Sometimes you need to see the whole conversation to understand exactly what a user means. I can imagine more than a few quotes that would come across completely different if you didn't see what it was in reply to.

I honestly don't mind the current system. Yes, it would make threads look cleaner, but it would make some discussion turn into "wait, wait? You didn't say that!" "Yes I did, scroll up" posts.

I am pretty neutral about this. Personally I read about 90% of the posts in a thread before replying to it so I have an idea of whats happening. Daz your idea has pros and cons to it.

:/

I'm not referring to the nested quote restriction. I'm talking about hitting the quote button and it [by default] only including the outermost quote, thereby keeping the post that's being created directly related the included quote. If you want to chop-and-change, that's fine, but that's what I find myself having to do most of the time just to make a reply to someone who has quoted a handful of quotes.

So you're just talking about the default behaviour... Okay, I get it now.

Honestly, though, I tend to maintain the entire thread of comments (like I've done here) much more often than I have the need to edit the thread. I suppose that behaviour varies from one usert to the next, though.

That being said.... It's much easier to eliminate all the inner quotes manually than it would be to add them back in with the method you are proposing.

I'd like for it to include the five going out to in. If I quote a block of quotes, I normally want to draw from the included conversation, and it gets frustrating to sift through the quotes to delete the inner few that block it off from being posted.

Unless youre referring to adding an additional button, so you have the traditional quote button and a "just the newest post" quote button, which actually would be a useful addition.
