You make some good points, Fatso. Hadn't thought about moving my thumb from the analog to melee, jump, etc. Plus that's true what you say about melee accuracy. Downright irritating trying to time it right, although I do just fine in Campaign mode. Still, I'd like to resist feeling like a total noob while relearning how to play the game all over with a mouse and keyboard. That and I just haven't found a combination of keyboard settings that really feel comfortable. To me, the controller has and will always be the true weapon of death. And as long as I can perfect my aiming skills on this, I think I'll turn out just fine.

Well, I play both PC and Xbox games, so the adjustment for me wasn't so bad, but if you had to choose, I'd say stay with what's most confortable to you. It really doesn't matter how you play, but rather why you play and if you do well. If you can't get used to an online controller, I'd stay with the mouse and keyboard like I did. I couldn't get used to it, so I just grinned and beared it.

Fatso,

That's exactly what I was thinking, but I had no time and was too lazy to type it all out.

Good job ;-)

Darn you I was going to say that too! LOL. (Though I already mentioned some of it.)

AND IT IS NOT EASIER TO MELEE AND ZOOM.

Totally agree with noobnoobnoob on this one. If you configure the buttons on the controller in any way that makes sense, it takes very little effort to perform any given task (ie: aim, melee, etc). I personally have set mine up almost exactly like the XBOX controller (feels about the same and has the dual triggers and button config) and yeah sure I can't point and click to kill but I can allign and fire all the same. In other words, it feels just as workable as a keyboard and mouse yet less strain.

Well it's all subjective. Since you and noobnoobnoob are frequent controller users, I can understand your point. But my point is that any competent PC gamer will probably memorize the position of the keys and they won't have to look down on the keyboard to "find the button" to know what they're doing. My F key is by default melee, and from the day I played Halo PC I never had to look down to press F to melee. Same as zooming in, which for me is clicking down the mouse wheel. My point is any decent computer gamer won't need to "find the button". You get my point?

Even as I type this, I have not glimpsed once at my keyboard. But as mentioned before, it's all subjective, so I can comprehend your perspective. But I am saying that the controller is not necessarily superior to the keyboard and mouse in terms of zooming and meleeing. In fact, I believe it's better, because you can place the keys wherever you want.

I don't need to find a keyboard button. Just like a controller it's easy to learn their locations. Don't be intimidated by all those buttons. All the controls you'll ever need are neatly grouped on one section of the keyboard. My left palm hardly ever moves to reach a key. My fingers do the reaching.

On a moving target how do you perform a double melee with a controller? It's B-Left trigger-B with default settings. Usually you can't keep the crosshair on the target long enough because your have to stop aiming to press B twice. By the time you're about to press B a second time the target could have moved out of your FOV. (field of vision)

With a keyboard and mouse I press F, right mouse button, F. I can keep my crosshair locked onto you throughout the entire combo never missing a hit. The keyboard and mouse is clearly the weapon of choice if you want to dominate in Halo PC. No scoping is easier, close range melee combat is more effective because you can maintain a constant target lock provided you have the hand eye coordination. You can practice all you want with a controller but you can't change the fact that you need to multitask your thumb to aim AND melee, jump, etc. With a mouse my right hand is dedicated entirely to aiming my crosshair on your noggin.

Amen, Fatso. I do especially agree that no scoping is easier... XD

But don't get me wrong though, controllers aren't bad, but keyboards and mice are the best for FPS games. I hosted a game last night where I had no lag so I just got most kills at 49 with my 360 controller, actually. So the controller's not that bad, but I could have gotten more kills with the keyboard and mouse.

You know.. there's this small thing on the bottom right corner of your posts.. it says "Edit". You can edit your posts, you know. But yeah, the controller isn't that bad. Just that the keyboard and mouse is better for FPS games.

A Xbox controll is pretty hard to use. because i dont have a x box . and i tried playing my friend's x box and played halo. the controll was messed (to me) and i find it cooler using the keyboard and mouse to play first person shooters.
