Subject: is master chief the last spartan?

i haven't read the books or anything but ive always wondered is the chief the last spartan? what made me wonder is there's an episode on halo legends where the chief is with other spartans, and if he isn't the last spartan why hasn't bungie shown this in the trilogy?

I am not good on the Canon shenanigans but I think he is the only one that is still in contact with earth.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

There are roughly 336 still alive, John being one of them.

there are a group of spartans left, they are in a shield world with dr hasley though. also wrong website, go to halo waypoint for halo info

  • 08.13.2011 3:10 PM PDT

is there any reason why bungie never show that there are other spartans? i dont get why they made the chief look like humanity's last hope when there are 336 other spartans.

eh, it was more like bungie made a game bout him being the only one alive, then books started to come out and they approved of them, but kept going with the whole master chief thing

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Nope, there are over 350 still alive that we know of.

- S-III Gamma Company (330)
- Red Team (3)
- Black Team (4)
- Grey Team (3)
- Blue Team (3)
- Team Katana (5)
- Team Saber (3)
- Tom
- Lucy
- John
- x amount of Spartans in cryo awaiting rehabilitation after augmentation failures.

So we know that there's roughly 354 alive, many of which have their fates yet to be revealed.

"For God and Glory!"

interesting, I didn't know any of this

322 of Gamma Company, cause the 3 teams in Onyx were part of those 330 and 8 died, but yeah, I did forget about Lucy and Tom and maybe Rosenda if they ever add her to the universe.

8? Team Gladius was a 5 man team, then it was Holly and Dante who died from Team Saber. If my calculations are correct, that's 7. So that's 347 Spartans still alive in total.

My bad, forgot only two died died in Team Saber. That would make them 339 though. 323 from Gamma Company + 16 Spartans from Black/Blue/Grey/Red Team plus Tom, Lucy and John.

I always hated maths! :P

Right, let's surmise:
- S-III Gamma Company (323 - including Team Katana and Team Saber)
- Red Team (3)
- Black Team (4)
- Grey Team (3)
- Blue Team (3)
- Tom
- Lucy
- John
- x amount of Spartans in cryo awaiting rehabilitation after augmentation failures.

Utilising my godlike math skills, that adds up to 339 known Spartans alive. Yes, you're right. :P

A lot are dead or MIA. But even the dead ones are listed MIA. I don't know why bungie didnt ever show this in their games. I hope that will change in the new trilogy.

i've always assumed that Gamma company was still on onyx, and were almost all killed when onyx went "active". That only leaves about 20 or so, a much easier number to keep Spartans at near-mythical status than 300. Then again, I don't kno what really happened to Gamma company.

No, Gamma was sent off on their classified mission. The only Spartan-IIIs of Gamma Company on Onyx when Zone 67 went active were Team Katana, Team Gladius and Team Saber in competition for top honours.

Yes, I did make that mess. What are you going to do about it?

So I know Black and Grey/Gray Teams are from Halo: Evolutions and I'm making a guess that Blue Team Had Kelly, Linda and Fred. I know Tom and Lucy were the only Spartans in Team Foxtrot to live Pegasi Delta, Red Team gets me lost, where did this start and who was in it. I read all the books, but that was months ago and don't feel like skimming through them all again right now. John is simple, so no need to jump there. But Team Saber and Katana I think should be in there own group not with the S-III Gamma Company, because in The Ghost of Onxy they are "moved" to Blue team by Kelly when they are in a Dyson Sphere with Dr.Hasley, Fred, Kelly, and I think Linda, because don't they use her sniper scope to understand where they are? *If any of this is incorrect please tell me how, because I would rather know the right anwser and claim myself wrong, then not knowing the correct info.*

OP: No he is not the last Spartan, but he is claimed the "luckiest" of the Spartans by Dr. Hasley and Cortana.

Red Team is a team of Spartans that participated at the Harvest campaign (or at least part of it, if I'm not mistaken) and they were featured in the Halo Wars game made by Ensemble Studios. Alice, Douglas and Jerome were the only known members of the team and they were among the crew of the Spirit of Fire when she gave up her FTL Drive to make the Forerunner Fleet go supernova, thus rendering unable to go back to human controlled space since the ship couldn't go into slipspace, but so far we know they are alive.

no there some left, most are Spartan III's though. As far as spartan II's there are - look up "Ghosts of Onyx" above, and besides the others mentioned theres that girl who was loaded "dead" into the Pillar of Autumn.

nvm. im a dick, just noticed the guy above me mentioned her.

PEOPLE i think he is talking about Spartans 2's not all of them in total.

  • 08.14.2011 2:40 AM PDT

The point of Chief being "the last Spartan" is that he was publically known to be the last Spartan alive.
All other Spartans are either too far behind enemy lines (like Grey Team for instance), genuinly missing in action (SoF's Red Team for instance), fates unknown (Jun and Gamma Company for instance) or not revealed to the public.

Add to that: the whole thing started off with Chief actually "being" the last Spartan (known to be) alive, before MS decided to expand Halo and they (with Bungie, Eric Nylund etc etc) expanded the universe and brought the other Spartans back into the series.
During the original Halo (still the only Halo that makes the claim Chief is the last one left), Chief actually thinks (or at least assumes) he is the last one left because the rest got dropped on Reach when it was attacked by the Covies.

  • 08.14.2011 3:01 AM PDT

Personally I think it waters down the story and chief's significance having other spartans remaining.

I hope the games continue to ignore the interjections of authors and follow their own story, as it should be. Halo is a game story and shouldn't be dictated by outside sources that undermine the real story taking place.

The strongest Rivals are also the strongest allies.

i think 2 spartan 2s, 4 spartan 3s and halsey and mendaz are in the dyson sphere.
