Greetings all,

I've been playing halo for a long time now, and once in a while you get to join a server where the host thinks he's a GOD because he manages to headshot players with > 100 ping.
This is both annoying and frustrating, since the host clearly has an unfair advantage over the other players.
Sure, players with high ping rates are more vulnerable to players with lower ping, but if the host is not a noob, he can dominate completly, and I've seen this happen.

What do you think about this?

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
Display Type: LCD Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-bit Color

I hosted a few times. I had 0 ping. I could kill easily and it was hard to kill me. I had no fun after a few times and stopped.

If you stick to dedicated servers, no one is "host"– everyone is connected to the server from their own computer. Some people will have better, (lower) ping, because they have a better internet connection or they're geographically closer to the server, but no one should have 0 ping.

Sometimes, you get weird reading when you check the scores and see everyone has 0 ping or you do, and you're not hosting. That's just some kind of glitch.

Tonight, most of the servers I like to play on did not seem to be up. On the servers I did play on, I had almost double my normal ping, sometimes worse. Normal= 34-68. I think I made more kills with 'nades than bullets.

Yeah, people who think they're hot because they kill you when their ping is half of yours need to get a life.

as a former hoster my self i dont care much about it. I my self pwn on other peoples servers and am like a "Halo God" on my own servers. So to me fighting against other hosts on there own server is no big deal; they die all the same.

The 3 holy words on Halo PC online:

Lead Your Shots

The pros are able to win in any battle, regardless of ping. Kudos, Ice.

I agree.

Although I don't mean to brag, but I consider myself a pretty good player, no matter what my ping is. (When I host games it's like I'm God. But I don't think I am, so it all works out.)

Leading your shots IS how you win. Kudos again, Ice.

Unless your standing still, you'll still be a challenge to hit, even to someone with 0 ping.... the problem is how your response comes back to the server after the event.

and it is somewhat of an advantage but the difference is in how much you have to lead the target.

As a Host, I wish the game would allow you to set ping limits... and it's very hard to tell if someone has a high ping unless they are seriously lagging all over the place. In other words there isn't much you can do.
