Should his moderator status be restored? For that matter, if a moderator goes missing for a long period of time as he did, should they be able to walk through the door and resume their optional responsibilities, or should they go through a sort of trial period?

Just curious what you guys think given the current situation. (And no, this thread isn't directed towards just Jim, but rather if something like that happens again).

I was a finalist :P

He has stated he does not wish to return to moderating currently. He is still a member of the HFCS (but is classified as a sleeping moderator)

For this specific situation, he said he doesn't really have time to return.
In general it just depends if they can devote time to the site like they used to. I'd like to see Jim back as a mod, I still think we need a few more.

I believe he stated in that thread that he wasn't ready for that mantle.

I'm pretty sure the choice is entirely up to him. The basic principles of moderating haven't changed in a mere two years. If we wants his tools back I'm sure the webteam would be more than obliged to hand them back.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Completely up to our hosts and (based on my observation) is handled in a case-by-case basis. Personality and history, circumstances and reasons for their departure, verification that they are still the account holder, and probably some straight-talk PM conversations between the member and the management as to their current abilities and intentions surrounding the job.

For example, if "daddy went out to get cigarettes and never came back" and then suddenly showed up 8 years later? I suspect it would take some serious conversation before he was sleeping in the master bedroom.

Every situation is different, every member is. There's no mathematical formula to handle human interaction.

1x x 2y = what will happen in human interaction, where X and Y are variables that are yet to be determined. I win.

Expand on and clarify that and you'll have invented psychohistory thousands of years before Hari Seldon.

Years from now they'll be digging through the remains of the internet (after the first of '47, where the spider leaves the net after it catches on fire) and go 'Hey, this guy thought of the exact same formula decades before you did!'

And then? You'll all be sorry! Called me crazy, well I showed you... in the future!

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

I still can't wait until I play the right leg of Jim the Forbidden One.

Also, he's back?

Definitely, I missed him. I'm waiting for Anton, too.

It would be wonderful to see his return.

-Screech only vaguely remembers Anton but did enjoy his signatures
