Subject: Any Thoughts on Bungie going to the Playstation Network also

My thoughts are mixed on the fact bungie is no longer going to be a xbox only game producer. I mean bungie is no longer going to be the bullet in Microsoft's cannon. It doesnt feel right to me for some reason. Is it just me?

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

It's not just you, many people seem to have that feeling.

But I don't really understand it myself. Loyalty and emotional attachment to a device and its related network seems a bit.... I don't know.... odd? I can understand that sort of attachment to a game, a series, a character, a story, even the developer, but the platform?

It's like saying to a movie lover, "how can you like that film, it wasn't in Panavision".

Just think when they made the switch from computers to console, I bet people felt the same way and look at them now and what they've created. I'm sure it will be good.

I think it would be outstanding if they could work out some way of having cross-console play in multiplayer.

That way it vastly increases the number of possible different people to compete against when playing online.

I don't know how the different console makers would like that idea, but I think it would add a whole new range of possibility to the multiplayer experience.

...

Or it is equally possible that the two systems (Xbox Live and PSN) are two completely different, incompatible beasts, and to try it would bring about catastrophic disaster.

More platforms = bigger audience.

Bigger audience = bigger community.

Bigger community could = Better community.

And, if they somehow manage to have us play their new IP cross platform (xbox, ps3, and PC players all in the same party doing campaign or MM or whatever the equivalents are in this new game) then that could = Bigger Gaming Community (in game).

That could = Innovation in gaming.

That could = success for Bungie.

That could = recognition as a company that can compete with the bigs (Ubi, EA, etc..).

That could = s00per lotza moniez 4 teh Bunjee.

That could = s00per successful bungie.

That could = Happy Bungie who wants to make lots more games.

That could = Happy community who gets more games.

That = Happiness.

Are you against Happiness?

I think that it was a very good idea to expand to the ps3, they will earn more monies to fund projects and their games will become more popular.

  • 08.14.2011 10:59 AM PDT

i just like bungie with xbox and you forgot the part where Bungie's seven steps to world domination was sucessful. ;)

I also think that if Bungie's next Universe is an FPS, that when you have people playing it on the PS3 as well as the 360, it can only mean one thing...

...

Their next game will stomp the dogsh** out of Call of Doodie: Modern Warfail!

You know, as long as they keep making games for the xbox I could care less. Bungie going multi-platform is a good way to increase revenue and increase the number of jobs.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

Yeah, as Recon said... I'm sort of at a loss here as to why people care so much? Companies have to grow, and the idea of Bungie broadening their horizons should be nothing but good news to people that actually want to see them do well. They're weren't going to be slaves to the Halo universe forever.

Epic has never been an Xbox exclusive developer. What was Bulletstorm? Microsoft doesn't even own Gears of War. Epic could in theory take it to another publisher that will put it on multiple platforms.

What are my feelings on Bungie making a game for PSN? I don't really care. I do associate Bungie more with the Xbox and would most likely get their new game for the 360.

I don't blame you OP, I feel the same way... I think it's because I'm used to Bungie having been on Xbox only for 10+ years.

Don't forget the toast. Lots and lots of toast.

Halo > Call of Duty. Pac-Man > Call of Duty

Bungie won't be so special anymore. They will just be more of Activision's game slaves, even if they have all the rights to the next game they make..

Not exactly... Bigger community means more people with certain skill, but more people who can't get along as well. A bigger community means more options, but not necessarily better ones.

Xbox and PS3 have the same community. The gaming community. And by in large, the gaming community is not trollish 12 year olds, and so a bigger community from new platforms can only be better (on the whole... even if its 51% better and 49% worse)
