I think it is the new one. It is uber cool. All those nice effects, give what makes it so good.

I think the one from the E3 2k3 demo would've been cooler but I realize that they had to cut down on some of the graphical qualities in Single-Player. But I'm satisfied.

I like the new one better but I would like it more if it had a bit more glow around it.

The old sword looked like it was made of plasma held in place by an electromagnetic field, the same kind of tech all the rest of the Covenant weapons except the Needler use.

The patterns within the new sword suggest that it is partially composed of particulate matter - the stuff that forms the cutting edge. Other evidence of this is that the player seems to swipe the energy sword handle forward as the shield charges. This "molecular dust" would be held in place by what looks like the same type of energy as the kind that is projected by stationary Covenant shields on the ground. Also, there appear to be sparks arcing along the blade in the E3 2K4 preview, suggesting that this shielding energy is charged with electricity.

So, the old sword would incur damage by simple vaporizing anything that got in its way, while the new sword reshapes itself and forms a cutting edge that is sharpened down to the atmoic level, kind of like the Dragon Tooth sword from Deus Ex does.

The new sword wins for coolness, but the old one looks like it would be more effective against vehicles.

Well, I was a little skeptical of the Multiplayer energy sword from what I saw from the screenshots, but after seeing it in action in the multiplayer movie, it looks pretty sweet. I'm still more excited to see it in Single-Player with all it's glowy goodness.

if it was made out of plasma you couldnt find it when it turned off plus it would create a lot of lag online because of its glowingness

Meh. It was a fight between the E3 version and the original Halo 1 sword. The one from the multiplayer demo is just too crisp. It needs to have the blue plasma in it, or it just won't look right.

Agreed, we'el do with the new one, its cool anyway... any sword is a good sword right?

On the topic of swords, a weapon mode with only swords would be pretty funky!

just for abitta fun every now n then

I heard that George Lucus threatened to sue Bungie if they didn't make the PLASMA sword solid and always erect, for the lack of a better term. This is because the old PLASMA sword would form from the handle just like a light saber from Star Wars.

That would be extremely idiotic. George must be getting all frustrated now that his movies AND games suck. It's not like it was his original idea, the energy sword was in many sci-fi books before Star Wars (a.k.a. fantasy) was released.

I'ma gonna say the Old-School one was a LOT better. The eerie plasma-glow, the beefy aura about it, just made it so...ominous...and fearsome. I LOATHED the Swordsman ELites. Now all i have to fear is a smooth electric toothpick.

Bungie - bring it back. PLEASE.

I'm just kidding. its not true.
Edit- about George Lucus sueing. However this is true: all his games suck now except KOTOR.

you know they have been saying that the graphics are cut back in multiplayer. Perhaps in single player the sword looks like the old ones.

You wouldve fooled everyone too

I Want to throw a plasma sword at someone in multiplayer, like a throwing knife.. I wonder how much those things weigh? Probably not a lot..

I probably would have fooled everyone, but Lucus and Bungioe probably would have sued me for slander.

No, just Bungie. And even then, that'd be for implying that Lucas has anything on them anymore. Maybe the old Lucas (in the pre-Phantom Menace days), but not now...

At any rate, I want something in between the E3 2003 sword, and the old skool Halo 1 sword. As I said, the one now is far too crisp.

Well, I wouldn't worry too much about it because it looks like everyone was alittle disappointed. The game isn;t finished yet and maybe they will re-work it. It aslso sounds like from the IGN Pete Parsons interview at E3 that there will be more malee weapons than just the PLASMA sword.

The old one looks more menacing, the sharpness of the new one looks kind of primitive if you catch my meaning, the glow of the old one was mysterious and cool, bungie please keep the sword glowing if possible.

They really should consider bringing back the Glowy goodness of the old sword. It made it look so...so...I don't know what... BUT THEY MUST BRING IT BACK! Bungie has some time left to do somthing about it...

I think the glow was great, in the E3 2k4 demo they showed, the sword looked like a piece of transparent plasic... very, sharp... plastic.

I agree that something between the glowing Halo1 sword and the E3 2004 sword would be best. I wouldnt want it to be exactly the same as Halo1, because that looked to much like a big glo-stick, and it didnt have the sharp edge of a sword. If they had the E3 '04 sword with a bit of purple trailing particle effects around the outside, Id be happy.
