Me and my friend were discussing who would win in a fight between Spartan I's and Spartan III's. In the discussion we brought up alot of factors inlcuding their augmentations, training and the enemies they faced.

We discussed which enemy was tougher and what challenges each faced that was tougher. He sided with S-I's and continued on to say that they braved tougher/eaqual odds that a S-III had faced and that S-I's came out of their fight the winner whereas every S-III had died on the suicide missions they were sent on.

I tried to counter his argument by bringing in the fact Covenant had a higher level of technology and were probably more trained then the insurectionists.

Now I'm not really a S-III fan, but I still reckon that overall Spartan III's faced overwhelming odds (far greater then any S-I ever faced) and due to their training and augmentation that they are far stronger and superior then any S-I and would probably win in a fight either 1 v 1 or Squad V Squad. He did not agree with my opinion and we never reached common ground so insted I decided to bring this argument/discussion onto the forums insted and see just how many people agree with either me or my friend also to see if other people can bring in more evidence to support mine or my friends views regarding this discussion.

For the record I support S-III's and my friend supports S-I's.

P.S Please don't blindly bring in S-II's into this discussion, not that I hate them but because this discussion doesn't involve them.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Not this godforsaken abomination of a thread again.

Johnson is a SPARTAN-I, so you can draw your own conclusion from that, because he's a normal Marine. I mean, just look at the "Quid Quo Pro" cutscene in Halo 3. Then look at Noble Six in the last cutscene of Lone Wolf.

Sorry, I don't come on the forums often so I didn't know this was a silly topic, sorry for any annoyance. If you don't like it then I guess just don't click on it, view it and comment on it.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

It's not a silly topic. Don't worry.

Anyway, SPARTAN-III's would win because SPARTAN-I's never received SPI or MJOLNIR armor. Also, I'm pretty sure they didn't receive the intense training the SPARTAN-II'S and III's underwent.

Well, I can see what you mean but I don't really like the ending cutscene of Reach. I swear he takes out a high ranking elite in less then half an AR clip. I think it was a tad far fetched. Not to cause an argument I'm just expressing my opinion here. I do like the point you raised though.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

To make this comparison simple, in a fist to fist fight...

A Spartan I is like, Captain America before augmentation in the new movie.
A Spartan III is like, Captain America after augmentation in the new movie.

No no no, it's more like...
Spartan-I's are like Captain America before augmentation, yes but...
Spartan-II's are more like Captain America after augmentation
and Spartan-III's is like the guy who beat up Captain America in the alleyway before his augmentations

This way, it's less exaggerated and we get to see the Spartan program as a whole.

S3 and S2 augmentations yielded basically the same results.

S3 training was better.

Better isn't the right word, more streamlined maybe?

The only considerable difference between II's and III's was the equipment, and cost.

I like to think the training was more refined aswell. They trained S-II's and took this training and worked on it with the S-III's.

Just a heads up, Spartan I's didn't exist.

Just a heads up, Spartan I's didn't exist.

They were the Orion Project, but as an acknowledgement of what they did, they were renamed Spartan Is by Doctor Halsey when she made the S-2s. I think it's pretty safe to assume that S-3s would win, they had the same augmentations as the S-2s, the difference being more of them survived the operations.

Exactly and besides practically all of ORION died because of the augmentations. The ones that were left were horribly disfigured. Not exactly combat ready

Spartan 3 = Noble Team > Spartan 1.

That's the fact.

Expressing my strong liberal views without shame. Favorite quotes below:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."
"One starts to live when he can live outside himself."

- Albert Einstein

If anyone actually argues that an SI is an equal match for an SIII, their knowledge regarding the Halo Universe is not sufficient to be having any discussion regarding the HaloVerse.

And I'm the dick around here, lol. Noble Team were good soldiers, but if you want to base their skills solely on them dying during the battle of Reach, like most of the S-IIs, be my quest.

Be your "Q"uest?

Noble Team were far from being good soldiers. I'm not even talking about their horrible AI in the Campaign, just watch the cutscenes and you get a clear idea of how terrible they are.

The fact that they are present in Reach is nothing short of a miracle.
