Edit: Forgive my nativity, I have forgotten a lot on politics here, and jumped to an idea too quickly. My apologies.

Subject: Should the Mythic Members have a collective Moderation ability?

I'm going with no. Moderators do a good job.

EDIT: Also, I'm predicting anyone under Mythic will say no, and Mythics will say yes.

I think signatures are stupid....Oh wait...

I don't think that would be a good idea, and wouldn't it take forever to vote, therefor also taking forever to lock?

  • 08.15.2011 8:55 AM PDT

When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

"i liked the reality where everything was on fire better"

So you're proposing the ability to lock threads to keep threads clean (and something else about more power for yourself)? Are you going to collectively lock threads before they are sullied or what?

  • 08.15.2011 8:55 AM PDT

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

Frankly, by the time enough Mythic's have come by and voted 'yes', a moderator would have already locked the thread.

Don't get me wrong, they do. They honestly do, but they aren't always there, 24/7, but with the backing of 332ish Mythic members, they could keep things just THAT much cleaner. Bungie has a rep to keep clean now, and we all know The Flood is where things get dirty.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

You basically just described the report button, more or less, except the report button doesn't discriminate based on the color of the skin of your title bar

Well there is usually at least one moderator online, so just reporting would be more efficient than waiting for Mythic members to vote on whether or not to lock the thread.

Well, if that's the case, simply locking a thread won't help. So I have to say no.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

Again, such a system can (and most likely will) be abused. Mythic members, despite being long serving and behavioural members of the community are not forum ninjas and to have such a responsibility, as a group, would be a bad idea.

Collectivity will also most likely result in confrontation between mythic members about what threads are suitable to lock and which should not. The idea of weather to lock a thread, ban, or warn someone should be made by one person only to avoid bias and argument.

I agree the Flood is pretty bad(I go there myself) but isn't Reach worse, whenever i used to go there i couldn't get a serious answer when i asked serious questions.

  • 08.15.2011 8:59 AM PDT

meh...

no. titles have no power. I don't want an elite class of forum members. the moderators are the only ones with any ability to ban

  • 08.15.2011 8:59 AM PDT

No. Being a Mythic Member shouldn't mean anything more than, "Hey, thanks for sticking around for so long without being a complete d-bag the entire time."

Because making you a Mythic Member, doesn't stop you from being a retarded ass cavity.

Bad idea. I know of a few people that have accounts that are 'mythic' and they have a second account to 'troll' with so they don't lose the blue bar.

  • 08.15.2011 9:00 AM PDT

I'm all for making me more awesome, but to be honest this isn't a good idea.

On second thought, give us powers. I want to see how much we can abuse it before it's taken off us :D

Yes and no. Yes it is much like the report button, but no, because that EVEN THEN doesn't always work, because no one really would use it. But if they had a counter next to a Vote to Lock button, then I feel more Mythic members would take to using it appropriately.

Also, I would like to make note to everyone that I honestly never hold Mythic for long, it always goes back to Legendary and even Member from time to time. I only was reminded of this idea I had due to my title at the moment.

As for timing, if you look at The Flood now, and yes I know that's a horrible example, due to it ALWAYS having a problem, but it is a prime example of useless spam that can hide something detrimental to Bungie's good name.

Nope, but I feel like we could use a button like this

  • 08.15.2011 9:01 AM PDT

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Sounds like the report button.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

No, just no.

Mythic member is only a title showing how long you've been here.

I know I know. It's always just been a thought of mine, because it honestly gets quite awful sometimes. But I appreciate everyone's aptness to reply. Thank you for your, more or less, truthful opinions.

A vote to lock button would be abused more easily than a report button.

  • 08.15.2011 9:10 AM PDT

Like most people have said, the mods do the whole moderating thing quite well. The whole voting to lock something is actually what the report button is there to do.

  • 08.15.2011 9:11 AM PDT

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Gotta agree with Helveck here. It would be cool, but unfortunately, I don't think there are enough qualified Mythic members.

We're basically talking about an additional lock and increased weighting to reports, similar to what we already have. It would be just as anonymous as the current system so I don't see where those arguments would come from.

I like the idea but I'd rather implement it in a way where the cut wouldnt be at Mythic Member. It would be better if the mods just picked five people, regardless of title, each.
