For The Lulz is a worthier cause than For The Win.
From the skies to the ground, I'm the one that'll reign destruction down on you from behind the wheel and the flight stick. Keep your eyes on the rear view mirror, or you may be eating exhaust aside the road, riddled with holes.
My sniper is hungry for souls.
If at first you fail, fail again so that you succeed by wrapping your fail around the continuum into the win zone.
Hey all! I've got something very special for you today. As some of you know, there is a hilarious glitch that occurs in Reach (featured pretty regularly on Fails of the Weak). I believe Geoff's words were, "He chose to go lightspeed at the wrong time." So, I coined the term "Lightspeed Glitch" based on that.
For those of you who don't know, the way this glitch works is that your vehicle (usually a Covenant vehicle) clips a piece of faulty geometry. ChasedTuna9's theory is this: The game registers you as moving forward and being a few feet ahead when you bump into this geometrical failure. Thus, the game applies the inertia of that movement from a standstill, so you go flying at ridiculous speeds.
Now, regardless of what exactly causes the glitch, it is undeniably hilarious. And since many of you have seen others fall victim to the glitch without encountering it yourself, I'm offering you the opportunity to do it yourself with little effort. I have designed a map based entirely around the glitch.
Just so you know that I'm not trying to trick or troll you, here is video proof that this map works (well, too): Lightspeed Factory Fun
There are five areas on this map. Each of them (sans one) triggers the glitch in a different way, to varying degrees of difficulty. Now, before you complain that the pieces aren't even, you must know that this is deliberate. Uneven surfaces appear to be more conducive to Lightspeed than even surfaces.
Runway Alpha: The favorite area of both myself and others, this runway is by far the easiest spot to go Lightspeed on. In order to do it here, you simply drive straight down the runway. That's all. Going backwards also works, and some find that boosting helps. A teleporter will return you to the start of the runway if you fail to go lightspeed.
Short Runway: Going backwards here proves to be much easier than going forwards. As before, a teleporter will return you to the start of the runway if you fail.
Renegade Ramps: Based on the Banshee spawns on Renegade, this area requires you to boost over the pyramid piece in a Revenant while holding forward.
Dishes: This area requires you to drive on the rim of the dish. Boosting helps.
Observation Area: Maybe you just can't go Lightspeed. Maybe you like to watch. Maybe you just want to try and get splattered by a flying tank. Whatever your reasoning is, you can take a break here and watch the hilarity.
Here is the custom gametype designed to reward you for your hilarious exploits:Faster Than Lulz
And, without further ado, here's the map: Lightspeed Factory
Credit goes to myself (Foehammers Rvng) and Heroic Warhero. I also thank ChasedTuna9 for fixing our derpy teleporters.
Enjoy! Maybe try and go into plaid?
NOTE: This is not teleporter launching.
And maybe you know something about how this glitch works that I don't? Discuss.
