Ok. I was over @ xbox.com, lookin' up interviews and crap with peoples and special looks into the Halo 1 game. Going over the inside peek at the MJOLNIR Mark 5IVE Armor, i noticed this at the end of the article:
With such a powerful computer in a mobile package, the SPARTAN-II / MJOLNIR combination is designed to be the most devastating intelligence tool ever created.
This sentence instigated a very interesting and extremely SCARY thought in my head:

What IF the Covenant have been developing something in our wake? What IF they've followed suit to our SPARTAN program, tweaked it a bit, and indeed are developing an answer to our OWN heavily armored and augmented special infantry? They are, after all, scavengers and not creators. That phrase, coined in the books, may not always apply to Forerunner tech.

It MAY also apply to US in the sequel.

Imagine...a Gold Commander Elite.

Doesn't make sense. You should know by now that the Elite's shields are stronger than the Mjolnir.

Ever heard of Elites? Do you think they are wearing a sack or something?

Actually, the MJOLNIR armor's shields were taken from the Elites personel shield and modified to be stronger.

ELITE = SPARTANS??!! THEY'RE TYPICAL SOLDIERS!!! SPARTANS AREN'T!!

Born and raised as soldiers, given; but nontheless. You've got your heads up your asses - pull out for a sec and read through. The Elite's shields are NOT stronger - in the books, anyways. The experience of the books and the GAME differ, slightly more than slightly sometimes, and if we read carefully, we STOLE Elite Shielding tech and IMPROVED UPON IT. I'm talking some really BEEFY program for the Covies - so as to pose an extremely TOUGH enemy, RIVALING ASPARTAN. John SLAUGHTERED EVERYTHING on Halo. I saw, on average, an elite take out maybe 3-6 marines before being put down. Given there are no doubt some different situations ni combat which may tip the scales of that ratio GREATLY, it's still a good in-game average.

Think about it before spewing out some pig-headed criticism.

EDIT: THANK YOU, ShadowSnipe! sheesh.

The only Elite who has stronger shields than the Chief is the Goldy. And I'm betting the Covies have to recharge their suits on occasion, whereas the Chief has a fusion reactor in his backpack. Also, in case you haven't noticed, the Chief's shields recharge a lot faster.

I think it might be fun to square off against a cybernetic super Elite, but only if it was realistic. He'd have to be the challenge of a multiplayer enemy, something I don't think can be replicated with current AI technology.

Technically the first MJOLNIR armor was created from the shields of the jackals and personalized into the suits. They had never heard of Elites when they created the shields on their armor, go read the book the Fall of Reach

In response to SPARTAN 021;

If the Covenant really wanted their own Spartans, the end result would have to be roughly equal to the Chief, unless you think they have a magical cache of technology no one has seen before. They really can't do any better, and implants and augmentations for the base, unarmored Elites wouldn't do much to protect them against gunfire. So, the AI would have to be as good as a human player's to offer a challange that is truly equal.

@ John da 117th:

I REALLY think you're a little... OFF.

Wasn't the very first message we recieved ("Your destruction is the will of the Gods - and We are their Instrument.") from an Elite?

I could be wrong. I don't think i am, though.

@ T. Grunt:

You're right; the AI would have to be PRETTY serious. Also, i was thinking "what if the covies got their hands on MJOLNIT armor?" but that's impossible: In First Strike, we read of Grace's demise, and her following auto-self-detonation.

Good points.

I drew it before i read the books so some information may, quite possibly be bollox.

That is the SCARIEST THING i have EVER SEEN. That weapon is a little extravagant, but cool.....i like the Forerunner bling-bling around his neck.

If you hadn't read the books, how'd you know about the Prophets?

Not to be a Jack@$$, but have any of you guys heard of the Brutes??? In First Strike the Brutes more than hold their ground against the Spartans. Why would the Covenant create some type of imitation Spartan program for the Elites, when they already have access to a whole race of aliens with the strength, speed, and battle awarness of the Spartans?

THAT'S IT!!!

Someone dig up their copy of Fall of Reach and find out just WHERE we got the MJOLNIR shielding from. Someone's borrowing mine.

It doesn't even make sense, stealing Jackal Shield tech. Isn't it obvious? You guys REALLY need to peel away from the books and apply a little real-worls COMMON SENSE.

MJOLNIR Shielding = Elite Shielding times like 3.

@ Eagle:

Actually, if you read the Covie Bestiary on the site news, we read they are in fact pretty slow. "They rely not on speed, but on brute force."

True, the brutes will be quite formidable, but i'm thinking IN-GAME SPARTAN RIVAL.

  • 05.12.2004 3:26 PM PDT

The Brutes are a rival! If you've read First Strike, then tell me who kills Kelly (think it was her)? A Brute, not a thousand grunts, or three Elites, or a pair of Hunters, but a single Brute! The Brutes are the Covenant's answer to the Spartans.

I wanna see a special unit Hunter... like Gold Hunters or something, that would be badass. Those guys give me the creeps (if only they could shoot straight... and flank you... and... alright, alright, they're not as good as I thought :P)

The sheilds were taken from jackels sheilds because they had there sheilds on their amour befor they first saw the elites. They didn't see the elites till they were on the MAC station and remember how mc and the other spartans always collected the sheilds?
