Subject: Devil's Advocate: The Gravemind's goals are noble.

The Flood kind of reminds of me of the New World Order. A one world order, where all individuals submit to a supreme authority, and nobody's privacy, nobody's life, nobody's memories, are safe, and everybody is equally servents of the Gravemind (One World Government)

Didn't the Forerunners sacrifice themselves to save the galaxy? Also I've heard that the only reason the Forerunner de-evolved humanity and other races is because they went to war wiith the Forunners and were considered a threat so were punished. This is all absed on what I can remember. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Wouldn't you say completely destroying human's culture and empire, then devolving the entire race so they could NEVER band together in a manner that would threaten the forerunners is extreme?

Even then, they treated the flood as nothing major until halfway through the war(as far as I can tell), then only started trying their best to defeat them. All the while they had halos which could apparently be set to kill life only in a single system, which would've taken the flood out pretty good.

I see where you're coming from. I've read more of this thread and am starting to realise what you mean.

Immortality without privacy, without even the few cubic centimeters in your skull that your anatomy grants you - that's not noble.

EDIT: Also, what about that line he gives to the Prophet of Truth: "You will be food! Nothing more,".

The Gravemind is certainly an intelligent entity, he has the combined experiences and memories of every morsel he's devoured, and he uses his extreme intelligence to his advantage. He is playing with his food, trying to convince them to join him. If you were an extra-galactic parasite, would you want to fight against an entire species to assimilate them, risking the failure to propagate your collective self or would you attempt to have a member or members of that food-species betray their brothers and sisters? Being assimilated into a greater being as food, then being a portion of that overwhelming collective would be one of the greatest tortures you could visit on a sentient being. You wouldn't even be a "being", your body would be wrenched from you, your privacy and thoughts would no longer be yours. You would be food. Nothing more.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

If being a cosmic zombie with the parasitical nature of dead flesh surrounding your shell and with the intent of consuming all life in the universe is 'noble'.

Then my my I don't meet eye to eye.

Words are one thing, actions are another. The gravemind is a sweet-talker, but his actions are gravely detrimental to advance life for each being in the galaxy.
