Subject: Do you want Cortana to die? When?

Take what you can, give nothing back

--Fyrestarter

While I don't want her to die, she's at/past the age where she starts going into rampancy, not to mention she's a few circuits short after being messed with by Gravemind....I figure she'll make it through the new trilogy though

Chief, unfortunately, doesn't know what the ladies like.

I lol'd. So true.

I love Halo 3, but what the were they thinking with Johnson's death? Somebody as badass as Johnson deserves to die in battle, imo. Not by a sentinel shot to the head by Guilty Spark.

I know right! Johnson didn't deserve to survive SO much just to have a lightbulb shoot him.

Halo 6.

United Armed Forces

tbh I absolutely hated not having a voice in my head for Halo 3. She should die near the end of 6.

To make new Halo trilogy to be good, Master Chief has to die in Halo 6 so... I think Cortana would die in Halo 5 to force Master Chief to cope alone in the Halo 6, thus leading to his heroic death to save the galaxy from threat. IMO, it's fitting for Spartan because Spartans die in the combat, it's part of their lifestyle. Eventually, we will have to accept that fact that Master Chief has to die sometime.

Yeah, this is what I want. To see him cope with Cortana being gone since he's become so attached to her. Also, it'd probably be even more emotional if Chief had to put her down himself because of rampancy.

The concept is all that really matters.

It'd make sense to dispose of her in five. For rising action.

I wouldn't care as long as she doesn't pop up on the screen and slow things down like in Halo 3. That got really annoying whilst I was trying to get certain achievements.

Well, considering you're the next Halo, does she die? It's okay you can tell us.

Yet you didn't even read my dang reply.

Sure I guess I'm the next Halo. wort wort wort.. The arbiter turns himself into an AI and destroys Cortana so he can have Chief for himself.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

She doesn't necessarily have to die. An AI could survive in a planet-sized computer...

Hmm...I wonder where we could find one of those...

Isn't an AI's average lifetime somewhat around 7 years? Yet she's presumably what? Chief's probably been in Cyro stasis for more or around 7 years? Won't she be corrupted?

Though I don't want cortana to go, I think it is crucial for the plot that someone big from the original trilogy dies (and it ain't gonna be chief, at least not till the end of halo 6)

True. And hopefully they do her death right. (Not one freakin' sentinel shot to the head like they killed the most badass Marine...)

AI's begin to show signs of rampancy around 7 years. Rampancy isn't death, more like mental deterioration. The AI either becomes stuck in a logical loop or attempts to gather as much information as possible. They "think themselves to death" in a sense.

It was stated in one of the early books (First Strike or Fall of Reach) that they could survive if given virtually limitless computational ability, but it'd require a "planetary sized" computer, which is horribly impractical...by human standards...

Agreed, agreed. Haha. But, I am curious to see how Chief would cope with it considering how much he's become attached to her.

Play Halo 3

I have many, many times. I'm talking about now that they're giving him personal baggage since that was quite lacking in the previous games.

Her death won't surprise me when it happens, but I think hers should be paramount compared to Capt. Keys, Miranda Keys and Sgt. Johnson especially since there is more chemistry between Cortana and the Chief than anyone else in the Halo Universe. That being said, I think her death should be near the end of it all.

Chief should probably go "MIA" too since he is still human, despite all of the augmentation that has been done to him. The emotions between him and Cortana only exemplify that.

Yeah but considering that if she goes rampant she could cost her own AI life by doing wrong things, mistakes for instance accidently getting herself into enemy hands or somewhat.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

the only thing is the games felt weird cortana and even more strange with a random AI that wasn't really there.

So unless he gets a engineer or something..
