Subject: How can I be banned for creating an off-topic thread...

...in the "Off-Topic" Forum? I'm honestly at a loss, and it seems like a lot of people are getting their threads locked and their accounts banned for seemingly doing nothing wrong. If someone could PLEASE explain this to me, I'd be very grateful.

Cogito ergo sum.

It's usually spam/parody threads.

You probably broke another rule.

Most likely it was spam.

If you have more concerns or questions, PM a moderator.

The only reason I was given was that I was off-topic, with no mention of spam anywhere in the notice. But after reading about what counts as spam, that would explain some of the bans placed on other users.

So it was on-topic for the off-topic forum, or was it off-topic for the off-topic forum? Or was it off-putting no matter what forum you put it in?

Ed is dizzy and now needs to sit down. Wooooooooowoooooooowoooooweeeeeee.

If it's on topic in another forum on this site, it's off topic in the off topic forum.

I think signatures are stupid....Oh wait...

How are you posting if you are banned(or were you banned?) also you could try to appeal the ban.

Just a tip here: try not to post about Reach and Halo in general

You can be off topic in the Flood by either creating a thread that belongs in another forum, or spamming (posting gibberish, parody threads).
Look over the thread and the rules carefully, and you should be able to figure out why you/whoever made the thread was banned.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Why -blam!-s are the scum of the Earth. *link*

This short YT video sums up all the reasons why being -blam!- should be made illegal. If any of you still support LGBT rights after watching this video, I'll gouge out my own eyeballs and skull -blam!- myself.

This type of discussion is not allowed, and you didn't develop your thread in a mature manor.

You have been banned from the public forums by Yoozel. The ban message is reproduced below for your reference.

Ban Expiration Date: 08.13.2011 7:51 PM Pacific Time

A Bungie.net Forum Moderator has banned you for violating the code of conduct and/or rules of the forum in the thread below

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=64388676

>Use common sense. This is a video game developer's website. Keep your posts on-topic and "safe for work". The further you stray the more you'll tempt a ban.

That was all I got.

If it's on topic in another forum on this site, it's off topic in the off topic forum.
This is also a likely case. If your thread matches any of these categories, (besides The Flood's of course) then it was off topic, and the moderator had reason to ban you.

If this happens again, and you you think your thread belonged in The Flood, you can always try to appeal the ban.

*Might I also note that, if this is an alternate account you are on because your main account is banned from the forums, this is against the rules and will get both this account banned, and your main account's ban extended.

Your thread violated one of the forum rules. Every forum is under these rules. Just because The Flood is the Off-topic Forum doesn't mean you can post whatever you want.

You should take this up with Yoozel since he's the one that banned you.

The childish language and ostensibly negative attitude towards gheys is sarcastic, and adds to the shock value of watching the video, which itself was sarcastic. I was banned within seconds, and "Yoozel" certainly didn't take the time to truly evaluate the thread and the link.

Bypassing the profanity filter is also against the rules. It seems clear to me that you haven't read them. Do so now.

Being sarcastic is rather difficult on a text-based website. I permanent banned someone the other day for "being sarcastic" when he claimed responsibility for a spam attack.

As I said, take it up with Yoozel.

While the video may have been sarcastic, your thread really didn't seem that way, at least to someone who had not completely watched the video. It would have been very offensive.

Next time be more careful making jokes on the internetz
