Subject: Will some with power please go into The Flood and do their job?

I'm talking about this thread. I really don't care if I get banned for it. I'm surprised the thread managed to make it that far without being locked. I'm being called a satanist in there for goodness sake. I thought Flame Wars like these weren't allowed.

The PM system is cool.

The Flood overall needs a quick mod rundown.

There's been 17 locked threads in this forum alone today. They're doing their job. You're just too stupid to see it.

Reporting and Pming a mod are the only things you can do.
I don't understand why people make threads here about this kind of stuff.

  • 08.16.2011 4:13 PM PDT

I saw those threads. Most of them were parodies, meaning they would have died fast even if the mods didn't lock them. However, this thread has 47 pages to it and is an obvious flame war.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

And yet in those 47 pages I didn't see one post that had been hidden do to being reported. That to me says a majority of The Flood seems to approves of that thread.

That's quite a bold and unneeded insult.

Anyway, the moderators will get to it. They're not available 24/7 you know. You can always report the user(s) causing harm or even PM a moderator or two to handle the situation.

  • 08.16.2011 4:16 PM PDT

It means to majority of The Flood isn't even in the thread or attacking each other in it. The problem is that it should have been locked all the way back in May when it started.

I don't think it was bold or unneeded.

Whenever I see a post without a quote, I always assume it's directed to the OP.

You're simply feeding the fire by insulting him. Let it go. If you have nothing nice to say then don't bother with posting a response.

Subject: Do we need more mods?

Generic reply
Everything is fine. They're doing their best. They're volunteers, you know, so they don't even have to be here. We should be thankful

Funny how these threads keep popping up since everything is so damn fine and we got all bases covered.

The kicker is that the current mods always seem to take it personally. No one's expecting ten active mods to cover a site of this size so it's not about them. It's about being covered 24/7, which isnt a given regardless of the amount of moderators they "hire" but it sure as hell increases the chances. And no, it's not a big deal but I'm guessing that it's some kind of deal or we wouldnt have implemented mods in the first place.

47 pages means it's had a lot of hits, I'm sure the thread views are even higher than the number of posts. Perhaps the thread should have been locked, but this still shows that despite all the -blam!- I hear from people from The Flood about trolls and flaming, not a measly handful of you can report a damned post.

Yeah, I forgot to quote. My bad. I'll fix.

Most members don't report cause they don't see it work unless it was a bad link. The problem is that most of the time the report button seems useless unless it's a site breaking crisis.

There's 47 pages. Let's be modest and say there's about 25 PPP (Posts Per Page). Now lets say like 75% of that is an original user making one post (not a post made by someone who already posted). That means theres about 880 original users in that thread. Thats a lot of floodians...

  • 08.16.2011 4:25 PM PDT

Correction. That's a lot of Floodians who would rather argue something that isn't allowed in The Flood.

It's a way for the mods and staff to put the responsibility on the community....which never works since people want to see quick results. All the report button does it to make people go "well if I click this the post might collapse in 2,5 hours...-blam!- it, if no one els cares why should I." They're asking for a collective effort that only a few can be bothered with and it doesnt exactly help that 50 % of the population is fine with the rule breaking.

Subtle. ;-)

But, yes, you should try messaging one of the moderators/employees privately.

That I won't disagree with, but I believe an update for the report button is in the works along with other site updates. Call it a hunch. However, that's not the point. It's still there to use and should be used. We've been told it works and it does work. Regardless of how you, I, or anyone else feels it's the tool we've been given to used for a "site breaking crisis" along with the PM system to message a moderator directly.

Honestly I've been harping for a site that relies even less on moderators than we have now, one that would grant the user more tools to control what they see directly. Giving each user their own custom tailored experience on the site. Then no one could -blam!- about anything and the moderators wouldn't always have to be around.
