Subject: The Art of Halo 2: A POSITIVE look at Bungie's masterpiece!

I want to talk about the look of Halo 2 when compared to Half-Life 2. I know, I know, graphics aren't everything... it's all about the gameplay. Well, I haven't played either of these games, so I'm going to write about what I have seen.

I'm sure Half-Life 2 is technically past Halo 2 when it comes to graphics, but Halo 2 still comes off looking better in my opinon. Why is that? Well, I think it is because of the skills of the ARTIST at Bungie. When I watch a Halo 2 video, or look at a screenshot, I feel like I'm looking at a Picaso (famous artist) painting. Halo 2 is impressive on a different level than graphics, it's art. Half-Life 2 comes off looking impressive, to say the least, but it's more, how do I put it... of a "technical" nature.

When I watch a Half-Life 2 video, I think to myself... Holy Crap! That looks so freakin real! When I watch a Halo 2 video, I scream out loud... What the----(With my mouth wide open), it's so amazingly pretty. It's like putting a Playboy model next to a Victoria's Secret model. They both look amazing, but in my opinion, the Victoria's Secret model will always come off looking better because she is wearing art over her already georgeous, impressive body. The same thing applies to Halo 2. The game is already graphically beyond most games, but the artist at Bungie have "dressed" Halo 2 in art. Am I making any sense?

(This is in no way a "bashing of Half-Life 2". I'm sure it will be a VERY impresive game.)

Subject: The Art of Halo 2: Why Half-Life 2 can't compete!

I just wanted to put something postive out there about Halo 2 sense some people in this forum are, in a way, putting down Bungie because they did not get what they expected out of E3. Several web sites are giving the E3 "best graphics" award to Halo 2. We all know that Half-Life 2 has a superior graphics engine, but the artist at Bungie have gone further than graphics. They have created a living, breathing work of art.

It's hard to compare graphics engines since they're based off different platforms but I agree that Bungie's graphics end up superior.

i agree also, not to mention bungie is working with 3 year old technology and half life 2 is state of the art...halo 2 is and will be until halo 3, the best looking game ever, from design to animation

Perfect sense; and I like the analogy of the models. Nice :)

Yes, there are many "artful" games out there(Ninja Gaiden), but for me, the Halo universe is a step beyond most of those games. It's like comparing a Picaso to some local artist's painting. Halo has such a distinctive look that, more or less, makes you forget about the graphics engine as a whole, and helps you to focus more on the game itself.
