it is definately a ploy to get people to buy the new operating system. if you think you're the only one who realizes this, you're an idiot.

It's not so much a ploy as it is common sense. Windows Vista is coming out farily soon. And Halo 2 PC is not going to be coming for a while. So why make a lower quality of the game to run on XP, when you could make a Higher quality version that utilizes Vista? That is like Bungie saying they are going to make their next project for the Xbox rather than the 360.

It would be right to make Halo 2 for XP, Halo 2 is not worth paying $300 sice it's already on the xbox.

So Halo 2 on the PC will on work on the new Vista system. Am i the only one who thinks this is a ploy to get people to buy the new system? Bungie is owned by Microsoft, so isnt a pretty nice ordeal when their PC port will only work on a new system made by their superioirs. They say its not a ploy, just that H2 will only work to its greatest on Vista. If thats true, why do all these great PC games like Half-Life 2, Doom3, work and look great on XP? Couldnt H2 work on BOTH vista and xp, like we all know it would. But of course not, because then what would your incentive be to buy the first edition of a new operating system be? Face it, its a scheme to buy Vista, either decided by Bungie themselves, or the bigwigs up in Microsoft

At least I'm not the only thinking that now.

If someone thinks that a single game title is reason to buy OR sell an Operating System, that person is foolish.

You've stated that you wouldn't buy an OS just for Halo 2 PC. No one would.

Halo 2 PC is being made Vista-only because the hardware driver layer for Vista is a complete revamp. It's not going to be an incremental OS upgrade, it's a completely new OS. Since the game is likely going to take quite some time to develop, anyone who has a gaming rig capable of meeting the hardware requirements, they will already have Vista on their PC.

The OS is not due for a release until end of this year or later. It will be sometime after that before there is a large enough installed base to even make it feasible to release the game. You see, a console can have a "release title", OS's don't.

By the time Halo 2 PC hits shelves, you'll have Vista, or you will have a PC so old that it wouldn't be capable of playing the game anyway.

Dude. Everybody is going to get Vista eventually, Halo 2 PC or not. But most PC gamers with Vista will probably get H2PC. You don't have to buy Vista along with H2PC. But you're going to buy Vista anyways, probably.

Of course. Despite Bungie and Microsoft saying "well, Halo 2 will have stuff that will ONLY work on Vista!", it's just a way to get people to buy Vista.

But I don't care, I was planning on getting Vista anyway, before Halo 2 was announced.

I wouldn't say it was a direct ploy for users to get Vista, but I'll admit there is a hint there. But like you said, wouldn't it still be able to work on XP? If it would, then you have no point in saying that it's a ploy. Either way, Halo 2 PC will work, probably even better than Halo CE, and that works increadibly well for an unsupported game. And finally, Halo 1 is NOT better than Halo 2 (On Xbox, anyway).

Well I think the dude who made this topic needs to go re-read his post. Ok, for one Doom 3 and the other games you mentioned came out in like 2003 and stuff.......

Also, no one know wat halo 2 for pc is going to be like yet, guese wat, it may look so good that nobody in the world can run it!!!!! *sarcasm* Liket he mod said, Vista will be a completely new OS, it will even have sumthing called HDPC or sumthin like that, wich no graphics cards support yet, or from the article I read, the new Nvidia 7, not the 7800 line, seriese cards may. So quite whining you got time to save up money.

I just hope today's high-end computers can handle H2PC at higher resolutions. Because Halo PC had trouble on many computers. But if Halo 2 looks that good on the Xbox version... I can't wait to see what it will be like on PC! Just think about it: 4X anti-aliasing, no glimpse of untextured objects, I'm hoping H2PC will be just like the Xbox version, but much better.

And most of us are going to get Vista eventually anyways.
