Halo 1 & 2 for PC

Ive been thinking about getting Halo 2 for the PC since they shut down live for it on Xbox, and I never got the chance to play it online (didn't download all the maps in time). Ive heard good things about Halo 2's multiplayer and I was wondering if I would be getting the same experience as I would for playing on the xbox.

Same; I never went live on it either. Still played the crap out of the game with friends though.
I would say maybe, because it seems as if there are a lot of problems with it running on the PC.

As a veteran of all the Halo's (PC and Xbox) i can promise you this, you will not find the Halo 2 Xbox MP experience with H2V. There are around 50-75 players on at any one time, and the gametypes are usually ctf or fiesta team slayer on Coagulation or Lockout with the odd different map. There's no Matchmaking either or ranking system. In essence, H2V's MP is a skeleton of the Xbox version, as for a PC MP game, it's not good.

Halo PC on the other hand, is a very good experience and has a large number of players on it with a good variety of gametypes and mods. I'd recommend that if you want an experience close to the original Halo's

Not the PC's fault, its the fault of Microsoft/Hired Gun. They did a minimalist job with it while claiming they did everything they could.

That was true years ago.... Now its a lie. The only mods I can find being played on Halo PC are CTF/Slayer matches with nuked snipers and teleporters leading to the top of the ridge of the map which is 99% of the time Blood Gulch. If you're lucky you can find one or two populated servers with basic Team Slayer/Capture the Flag on a map like Rat Race or Damnation.

(Edit: Sorry for the double post. I'm doing a lot of things at the moment and forgot I just posted here. :P)

I do find a couple of gametypes, Zombies, regular gametypes like CTF and even Slayer etc...but i do agree with the modded maps, there are far too many of those or the rocket gametypes etc. The map variety isn't too great though, i agree.

Well come on guys, the game is almost 9 years old. I thinks it's doing extraordinary well for it's age. Population of 3000+? Enough said really.

OH! I forgot about zombies, can give current modded servers that. I just wish they kept them off maps like Hang 'Em High where its a camp fest on Sniper spawn or just fixed the maps that have the problem.

Definitely true, I was just talking about the gametypes/maps. It is nice to see that all the great games from about 10 years ago still have a player base. At the same time its sad that we don't have any games that will be lasting that long as well.

Indeed i agree, there are some Zombie servers that either have them on poor maps or have the zombies with shotguns which i personally don't enjoy. But yeah, there is a fair variety i guess, but there is far too many Blood Gulch Rocket gametypes and modded teleporters etc.

Rocket gametypes are terrible in general, definitely on Blood Gulch.... Makes me want to throw up.

At least Halo PC isn't flooded with Nuked Snipers on Chiron TL34 xD

Oh Lord, did someone actually make a server at one time with that? If so I want to personally ban them from playing any form of PC game ever again where they might harm other users with such a terrible gametype...

I can agree because I have Halo CE for the PC and there are far too many Rocket only game types and yea zombies are fun except on hang em high. Anyways so Halo 2V sound like its not worth getting right?

Something smells fishy...

If I were you I wouldn't get it. H2V has issues with installations and performance issues. Not everyone has issues though. But If you get it you probably have a good chance of it either working poorly or it working fine. You just have to hope that it works fine. Sadly there are no guarantees.

Also, Microsoft doesn't really support H2V anymore. It's been years since a fix/update/patch has been released. And the game needs fixing badly.

So if you want a poorly developed product that is no longer supported and needs repair then H2V is the game for you.

It's all very sad.

If you really like Halo 2, really like the idea of Sniping on Lockout, and really don't mind dealing with various problems you might encounter, its worth it. Luckily for me, I'm into figuring out problems with my PC games, so, it sorta scratched a bit of an itch I had, but most people just find it annoying.

In the end, if you have Halo 2 on the Xbox already, just get Xlink Kai or Xbox Connect. Essentially the same experiences there, definitely if you're going to be using the 360 controller on your PC for H2V.

More or less. I don't mind the game and have never had any issue's with it, it's just not the experience you have said you're looking for, or any PC gamers for that matter. The only bonus that i have thoroughly enjoyed is the Co op mod that i have that another user named Shock120 and his team invented. Sadly it was never finished or properly released but even then, the Arbiter levels more or less work with up to 16 players...works on xbox too.

Alright lol I don't think I'll get it for PC. I really wish they didn't shut it down for xbox I heard Halo 2 has the best multiplayer.

I wouldn't say it was the best...it had a lot of aim assist and button combo's which took away from the skill a bit...however, that said, it's still the Halo i have the best memories with and the most fun with. It generally was a fun experience, even the glitches were fun when they happened (Accidental tank launching anyone?)

When halo 2 was still up me and a couple of my friends played some custom games and did the Super Bounce that was fun.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Then you should probably stop talking to children.

No, you wouldn't get the same experience as on the Xbox. The Xbox version had more than 50 people online.
