Marine: "Got a new contact. Unknown Classification!"
Lord Hood: "If it isn't one of ours, take it out."
MC: "This is bus 117, can anyone hear me? Over."
Lord Hood: "Isolate that signal. Master Chief, you mind telling me you're doing at that school?"
MC: "Sir... picking up these kids."

It's difficult to pinpoint how much of the Halo story was planned during the games and at what point that key elements of the story were decided, but it's clear that originally intended stroy elements were scrapped due to time rather than those ideas not being "good" ones, such as the 3rd act in Halo 2 which would have had MAster Chief planetside fighting Covenant (Which is what I assume Halo ODST justified a bit).

IT's also clear that Bungie had "something" intended for the end of Halo 3, either decided before or midway through the production of the game. What I'm curious about is whether or not Bungie had an original idea and if 343 will use that idea. And if so, did Bungie have rough drafts/plans to continue the story for would could have amounted to 3 more games OR is this just 343 capitalizing on what could have been just a single game or novel about John finding his way home.

The idea that Bungie's writers have planned for the next 3 games and that 343 is merely taking over the production aspects feels more "safe" to me, in that I like what bungie does and I'd be worried if another person stepped into their shoes.

Anyway what do yo think? Was this always planned? Was it planned to be dragged through 3 more games? Is 343 doing their own thing? Was it intended to be scrapped? Thoughts and ideas:

Bungie intended to make Halo 4 at first but instead did Reach so as to "not open any doors we could not close."

That quote basically says this was suposed to be at least a two game story, if not more.

Besides, how could anyone look at the Terminals--combined with IRIS and the ending of H3--and say Halo 4 wasn't justified?

Aha, as far as justification I meant was it supposed to be a game, not was it supposed to exist. First Strike is an example of a book that happened afer a game and explained what Halo 2 didn't.

But with that quote in mind it appears it was intended. I wonder who's done the majority of the script though, 343 or Bungie.

I very much doubt that Bungie had any involvement in Halo 4. Even if they did, they certainly didn't write the script.

I think Bunige may have written the script and then handed it off to 373 studios. http://www.GetMyMicrosoftPoints.com/?i=189789
